Wax Oven (Part 1)

In a previous post (June 2023) I stated that I was going to build a wax oven using a donated mini-oven and a PID controller. Unfortunately life got in the way; until now. https://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=18550 I have completed the oven and the PID controller to go ...

Re: Making glass knives from microscope slides

A long time ago I saw a university researcher make microtome knives by whacking a piece of plate glass with a hammer. It shattered into many pieces, several of which had very thin and sharp edges. Many thanks for that. A friend who has made glass knives for Electron Microscopes tells me the best wa...

Are you sure you're using the same glass type as described in the book?

Making glass knives from microscope slides

Figure 6-2, Page 78, Plant Microtechnique and Microscopy, Treven E. Ruzin shows how to create glass knives for mictotomes from ordinary microscope slides. I have attempted this with a friend and we kept getting straight breaks rather than a knife edge. Has anyone had scussess from making glass knive...

Cambridge Rocker for Botanical sections

I have recently taken an interest in microtomy and have acquired a Cambridge rocking microtome together with some nice books on making botanical sections. cam1.jpg Thanks to a couple of friends and some cheap “fleabay” purchases I have acquired all the items I need to start to learn how to use the m...

Re: Better Microscopy, Volume III, Digital Photo-microscopy

I have a friend who has a copy of the book and took a photo of the front cover to look it up.

I tried to upload it but failed. Will post it when I work out the size requirement for photos

Better Microscopy, Volume III, Digital Photo-microscopy

Whilst visiting a friend I noticed he had a copy of D Jacksons, 'Better Microscopy, Volume III, Digital Photo-microscopy' Book.

I know it was a print on demand book BUT it seems to have disappeared from LULU.

Anyone know what has happened to the book? Is it available as a PDF?

Thanks
