Re: Dismantling and cleaning a Leica trinocular head (501500)

Yes, no problems getting to that surface with lens tissue. Unfortunately, that is not the problem surface. The fungus is growing on the inner side of the prism and is reachable only if I can remove the glue holding it in place.

Great minds think alike! The same idea occurred to me after taking the photos so here's the outcome: The central prism looks OK. http://s19.postimg.org/9ywhekclr/IMG_20160307_092015.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/lcj0prn4f/IMG_20160307_092050.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/kfclgwbm7/IMG_20160307_092056.jpg ...

Here are additional pictures of the head. lorez, I may be able to get access to a centering eyepiece and stage target - a friend works with Olympus scopes but hasn't touched Leicas. How delicate is the task at hand? http://s19.postimg.org/5j9gvkatr/IMG_20160301_220335.jpg http://s19.postimg.org/l60q...

Re: LED Light kit

Bill, that's a great idea! What do you use to control the intensity? Is there another piece of kit we can connect to? I use one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3W-5W-LED-Ceiling-light-Warm-Cool-White-Cree-Down-light-Recessed-Spotlight-Lamp-/321561498637?tfrom=322014479827&tpos=unknow&ttype=price&t...

Dismantling and cleaning a Leica trinocular head (501500)

I picked up a used Leica trinocular head (model 501500) which has a bit of fungus in the left tube. Does anyone here know if it possible to take apart the head and clean the optics?

I have tried looking online for a service manual - no luck there.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Choosing between the Nikon E400 and Leica DMLS

First of, apologies for the delay in replying - both my PC and laptop decided to go on vacation within 24 hours of each other last Monday. The PC is back up with a new motherboard while the laptop is still in the hospital awaiting a replacement LCD panel. All in all, a rather expensive week... A big...

Re: Choosing between the Nikon E400 and Leica DMLS

Hi Dennis, that's what I'm hoping to figure out with the help of forumers like yourself. Both are good scopes and the DMLS is pretty attractively priced. So it boils down to how good are (1) the Nikon CFI PLAN Achromats vs the Leica N PLAN Achromats, (2) the occulars and (3) the availability and cos...

Choosing between the Nikon E400 and Leica DMLS

Hi guys, thank you for such a great website and forum for microscopy hobbyist. I've been avidly reading the articles and discussion posts for the past few months. I have come across two used microscopes here in Singapore and would appreciate your thoughts on what to go with - a Nikon E400 and a Leic...
