In addition to the marine bivalve veligers I posted a video of yesterday, I also captured some footage of a Gastropod -- in this case a snail. The lobed velum, used by the larva to swim and collect food, is very clear here.

Fantastic imaging, well made video. As educational as it is beautiful. I especially liked your capture of the interplay between the contractile vacuoles and radiating canals.

Re: Synura algae
Synura is colonial algae. They have flagella, so are capable of motion as a colony.DonSchaeffer wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 9:09 pmBeautiful photography. What is this? Is there real motion or is it just water currents?

I've bought 1/4 lambda wave plate filters from the following seller on ebay. I don't see 60mm listed but maybe you can contact them and ask if that's something they can get for you. https://www.ebay.com/str/techno2020?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=4AmZanewT1m&sssrc=3418065&ssuid=Li8...

Re: Unknown freshwater ciliate
We see a stiff, domed cell, with a long AZM, strong caudal cirri and no marginal cirri . It's Euplotes sp., seen from the dorsal aspect. The critter is in some distress: the contractile vacuole is distended, the caudal cirri are rather floppy, and the cell is spinning erratically. Thank you Bruce. ...

I wasn't the OP so I don't know ow the source of the protists. I responded to one portion of your question in the hopes that it might be helpful.

Re: Spirostomum in BF and DF
Nice videos...they raise the question for me of how ( with such large protists)..does a microscopist image capture detailed resolution of the cilia and contractile structures..and keep a sense of the entire ciliate. What I usually do is image the organism at wide angle (for me, that's usually a 10x...

Can anyone identify this ciliate? Freshwater sample from a large water planter at a local park in Bangkok. Ciliate is about 35-40 microns in length.

Collection of live round Diatoms
In Bangkok, when water levels are high in local klongs (canals) the water constantly washes over the banks onto concrete walkways, resulting in algae growth. I scraped up some of the soaking wet algae and found it riddled with diatoms. Diatoms are microscopic single-cell algae with golden-brown chlo...

Re: Switching out my ELWD condenser for a higher NA condenser
I would think even if factory solution does not exist (which is unlikely), it would not be difficult to adapt a high NA condenser and LED light source onto Diaphot. Does that condenser holder go low enough? With the hanging drop method (with upside-down cover slip - slide), you can have an 0.17mm s...
