Re: Can you see vitamins and minerals on microscopes ?

Hello,
You can not see the individual vitamin molecules and also not minerals. They are way too small. You can crystallize the vitamins, however and observe them under polarized light. And this is indeed an interesting thing to do with a microscope.

Re: What cleaning solutions at home?

Today I ordered my lense paper Use lens paper only for removing immersion oil. There is the danger of scratching the lens, as the paper is "hard". Better to use pure cotton, as it has a larger surface area to trap dust and there is less danger of pressing dust grains against the glass. About the so...

Re: What's the easiest way to create a text only readable through microscope?

Hello, Make a text to display on a computer screen (eg. with powerpoint) and then use an analog film camera to take a picture of the screen. Get the film developed (if this service is still available) and cut out the text on the film, glue film to microscope slide with transparent tape. Better then ...

Hello and welcome, and am still struggling with the software (colors, flickering). The flickering is because of fast exposure time and the frequency of the electricity of the lamp. The Toupview software should allow you to set the frequency of the power source to 50 Hz and you should also be able to...

Re: Couple newbie questions, please.

Hello, Should I have at least a blue filter? Older tungsten and halogen lamps might produce a light that is more red and the blue filter gives the image a more neutral color (for photography). If you turn the lamp on to low brightness, then the color is also more red and the blue filter helps compen...

thanks guys, now with this microscope can I view normal non-living cells just as well as living cells? i'm new to this so i don't want to assume anything. Yes. As a matter of fact, living cells are easier to observe with this one, as it has phase contrast. Living cells (especially bacteria) are tra...

Re: A drop of aquarium water and other questions.

Hello, I took a drop of water from my aquarium and put it under a cover slip. Don't look at the water itself, but scratch some stuff off from rocks, leaves or some algae from the inside of the aquarium glass (do not clean the glass for some time, to allow the build-up of a biofilm). The concentratio...

Re: microscope buying question

Brand and model are irrelevant. You need a compound microscope with: a. condenser (very low cost microscopes do not have them but it is recommended) b. objectives 4x, 10x, 40x, (100x oil objective is expensive and not needed unless special purpose) c. 10x eyepieces d. mechanical stage recommended an...

Hello, Yes, I can also observe that camera views (images) are of lower quality than through the eyepiece. I always do some post processing to increase the contrast). From what I have found out, it is the generally lower dynamic range of cameras that give me a problem. When looking through the eyepie...

Re: measuring the camera's power?

So, there's no way to tell what the power is because the image size changes according to the viewing screen size? magnification = size of image / size of specimen Because the size of the image can be made anything you want, the magnification changes. If you make it bigger on the screen, then the ma...

Re: Infinity and 160mm don't play well together, right?

generally Correct. Infinity microscopes contain a tube lens, to focus the light of the objective and even if the trinoc head itself does not contain a tube lens, then the distances between the 160 objective and the eyepieces might not be correct. infinity scopes can therefore have a larger objective...

DIC similar effects can be done by "oblique illumination", in which a filter is placed into the filter holder to illuminate the specimen from the side. The misaligned camera might have done a similar thing, picking up more light from one side. The shadows on the specimen seem to indicate this, and t...

It says: "ToupView software could be used with other cameras, which support Twain or DirectShow interface"

Also, not all dslrs allow for the live transmission of the image over usb, you might want to download some n...

Re: How do you perform stitching?

MS-ICE also allows you to input a video (and not overlapping images). The software will then extract individual frames from the video to do the stitching. You make a video as you "scan" the slide, you then do not have to worry about sufficient overlaps.
