I feel I must apologize.
I just do not use a microscope the way most of you do.
To me it is an extension of my cameras. Just five inter-changeable lens.
Chromatic aberration in some of my work is a bonus and is used for effect.

Let's try again. Ocular and projection lens
This time I used a prepared slide of a Basswood Stem and used a 2x objective to give a wider field which is more representative of the image size I use. I also adjusted the length of the camera tube to achieve better magnification comparisons. I have also added a frame from a Canon 5D MkII with a Ni...

Re: Comparison of projection lens and wide field oculars for imaging.
Gekko: I never use the eyepieces to view a slide. I am not interested in things being parfocal. To me it is the image I see on the print that counts. The comparison was to show you can use a wide field eyepiece as a camera lens in lieu of specialized optics. Although the image may suffer a bit, eyep...

Photos 6-10 are left side center crops of their respective full frame shots. They are approx. 1024 x 800 in size. The full size of the first five is 3800 x 2600 pixels. Unfortunately, the first five have been resampled to 1024 x 800. The download composite shows the first five at half size. There wi...

Re: parts to mount a camera on a ao spencer series 15
Objectives labelled as PLAN should give you a flat field across the field of view. I have no idea what the mounting thread of your objectives is for your microscope. Someone who knows your microscope can better discuss objectives . I have three microscopes, all from different manufacturers. All are ...

A USB camera plugs directly into the eyepiece tube replacing the eyepiece.
USB cameras typically have a 10x magnification factor.
Look at my post in Microscopes and optics thread
I use both eyepieces and projection lens with a DSLR body.

Comparison of projection lens and wide field oculars for imaging.
This is actually two tests. One is a comparison of wide field oculars and projection lens for imaging on a microscope using a DSLR. The second is a stability (vibration) test using a light weight DSLR body as the camera. The oculars in the comparison are: A Labomed 10x Wide Field 22mm eyepiece. (30M...

Henryr: I did an experiment today with my Canon SX50 HD. I believe your Cybershot is also a 50x optical zoom camera. I could not get the Canon SX50 zoom lens to come anywhere close to being useful. I believe your Cybershot would have the same problems and not be a useful microscope camera. Either bu...

Henryr:
Apochronaut was describing the ideal match between objectives and eyepieces.
Try looking through your oculars and objectives. See if you can actually notice any difference.
You can purchase an adapter for your Sony Cybershot for considerably less money than an objective or USB camera.

Your adapter must fit/clamp onto the tube, not the eyepiece itself. The eyepiece must be fully inserted into the tube.

Henryr tube ending in a 23.2mm tubular section that would fit into the microscope eyepiece tube. When using the Cybershot, you must also use one of the eyepieces as suggested by apochronaut. Those particular Zeiss eyepieces though, if they were with compatible objectives would be a better choice as ...

No and yes. No it will not work because you will need the eyepiece in the tube to use the Cybershot. Yes it will work if you mount the camera next to the eyepiece. There are commercially made adapters to do this. You may want to look at some of them and see if you can manufacture something similar. ...

When the camera image and the eyepiece image is the same, I believe they are said to be par-focal. I am probably the last person to ask about this area as I do not care. I view all microscope images on the computer display and do not use the eyepiece for viewing. Many will disagree with me, but I be...

If the inside diameter of the eyepiece tube is 23.2 mm, almost all USB cameras will fit directly into the eyepiece tube. No adapter is required.
Which USB camera to buy?
I suggest Touptek USB cameras.
They are slightly more expensive, but use the Aptina CMOS sensor.

It was both frustrating and fun making the thin sections.

Thanks for all the great comments.

To apochronaut . I believe your focus area for basic achromatic objectives is a bit off. Most achromatic objective have a flat field of 60-65% of the field of view. This is a quote from Microscopenet.ca "The difference between these three lenses is the focusing area which can be seen from the eyepie...

Mes0: The Canon T5i is fully supported for remote live view shooting with the Canon EOS Utilities software. If the outside diameter of the monocular tube is 25mm you can buy a Canon adapter on eBay for less than $30.00 that will use your existing eyepiece until you can purchase a projection lens. No...

Olivine Norite is an igneous rock from Rogaland , Anorthosite Province, Norway formed during the Pre-Cambrian eras. Which part of the pre-cambrian is anyone's guess. The Olivine Norite thin section is relatively large. Approx 23mm x 20mm. This is the rock the slide from which the slide was made. O...

You should contact Gekko about the rocks. He gave them to me to make thin sections.
The Kentallenite sample was "softer" than most rocks I have ground and I was only able to get one slide. If you would like to contact me send an email to
