I had a CH2 set up with its humble 10x 0.25, with the lamp adjusted for brightness. Changed to a Nikon 10x 0.45 Only difference I could see was it got brighter. OK - Note the same (Lomo size) dovetail is used where the bino mounts onto the prism housing, detatched for stability in some of these. The "D" part is thick, about 11mm, & 13.5mm thick for the 20mm wide center section.

Here's a snap of the cream trinoc: With the lever over one side, the vertical path is clear - no optics. The only marking is "1x" for straight up and "1.6x" to the eyepieces, which are absent. Sounds simple, doesn't it - "just use a tripod". I tried a Nikon copy stand which is hopeless :). The "poor man's Sorbothane" is apprently a mostlly-deflated inner tube, from something like a wheelbarrow tire. I haven't tried that one! Sorry if this has been posted al;ready... The technique I use, but need to improve, (I mostly use flash now...) is the one of a lump of granite (ex kitchen worktop) under the scope to increase the mass, and Sorbothane(TM) feet under that. By the way check a modern disposable razor - they're pretty amazing edges. Often a very hard cutting blade spot welded to a less brittle support.

Looking at the one I have under a stereo, the edge doesn't look particularly good to me. My "strop" is dry though. The advce on what to put on it, is rather random.
