Re: Microscope Binohead for telescopes & with mirrors

I had a look at the binoviewers available through Astromart and on ebay and have a few comments. Firstly, a lot of the second hand ones are using standard 23mm microscope eyepiece tubes, which limits the f.o.v. you can get obviously, especially with long focal length eyepieces. One, was even listed...

Re: Microscope Binohead for telescopes & with mirrors

Aside from the central beamsplitting prism, the Jentsch head for the AO series 10/20 used mirrors, as did the Seidentopf heads for the 100 series and the 400 series. The Jentsch head has a travelling telan lens, that compensates for the interpupillary change in tube length but it can easily be remo...

Re: Microscope Binohead for telescopes & with mirrors

Both Zeiss and Leica introduce corrections in their tube lenses, so I am not sure they would be suitable for this kind of usage. thank you, microscope heads are widely used in astronomy. I am not sure if the correcter is inside the tube. You can see the https://astromart.com/classifieds/astromart-c...

Microscope Binohead for telescopes & with mirrors

Greetings everyone. I am looking for a Zeiss Microscope Head which can be modified to use in telescopes. Challenge is that most microscope heads are all prims and 6 something air to glass surfaces which introduces Spherical Aberrations at high-magnification and loss in contrast. I am looking for a h...

Re: Disassembling Reichert Stereo Star Zoom 580

I will APO comment on the collimation issues as he has significant experience fixing these older scopes. In regards to using Q-tips, you should be able to use "Q-tips", meaning real Q-tip branded cotton swabs as some of the generics have been accused of containing contaminants that can scratch. I h...

Re: Disassembling Reichert Stereo Star Zoom 580

update:

I thoroughly cleaned the optics once again removing all the grease, its better but I see the image on the left optical path is not sharp on the edges and blurs out (chromatic abberation?) any thoughts if this is fixable or not.

Re: Disassembling Reichert Stereo Star Zoom 580

I sent you the parts manual if that helps. There are 6 inch "Q-tips" you can purchase that might make it a little easier. Otherwise APO pretty much said it all. There is a window in there. Sometimes, on older heads, there can be debris trapped by grease from the diopter. With care and good light yo...

Re: Disassembling Reichert Stereo Star Zoom 580

My understanding of " eyepiece cell" would be one of the cemented doublets in the eyepiece itself. I can't see how grease could have gotten in there, so I assume you might mean the optical window, below the eyepiece. Grease from the diopter thread an be spread around on that, with careless cleaning...

Disassembling Reichert Stereo Star Zoom 580

I happen to purchase a Reichert Stereo Star Zoom 580 StereoMicroscope from fleabay, the scope looked very clean and well maintained. But now I see that the right side optics is cloudy potentially due to the grease applied has seeped in to the glass collecting dust which is stuck to the surface, also...

Also the magnification offered by Optovar, is it corrected for resolution or empty magnification.

Re: Zeiss Optovar or Intermediate Pol tube

All you need for transmitted light DIC are 2 Pol filters and 2 DIC prizms. One Pol filter goes on the DIC comdenser (Type 1 or type 2, get Type 1 and type 1 slider with single arrow, and you don't need individual prisms for the objectives). Than get POl (PAL) binocular head, and you don't need anyt...

Zeiss Optovar or Intermediate Pol tube

Hi - I have a Zeiss Standard which I want to upgrade to DIC gradually, I understand that both Optovar and Intermediate Pol tube piece has slot for inserting analyzer. But I also think Optovar has other features (magnification, bertrand lens etc). Can I skip buying Intermediate Pol and and get an Opt...

Re: LED/Fluorescence Light Source & 1.5x Zoom & Camera adapter for Olympus VMZ Stereo Scope

Update: I found this company has Olympus bard objective manufactured for this scope, its 1.5X, so should bump up the magnification to 15-60X without changing the eye piece 10x 23mm FOV. Any thoughts if this will reslut in just empty magnification or will keep the resolution, I can't find optical dat...

LED/Fluorescence Light Source & 1.5x Zoom & Camera adapter for Olympus VMZ Stereo Scope

I purchased a used Olympus VMZ Microscope with 4x Zoom, it came with a external illuminator of 18W, does any one know what alternative light source, 1.5x Zoom and camera adapter works for this scope.

Re: Fixing Zeiss 100 Illuminator Concave mirror focus

I think you are describing two different problems, which although related are adjusted independently. If you follow the directions in the manual you should be able to adjust the mirror so that the two filament images are visible. The screws for the adjustments are on the back side of the lamp house...

Re: Fixing Zeiss 100 Illuminator Concave mirror focus

Have you checked inside the lamp house to determine that there is a mirror ? I have seen a few that have no reflecting mirror and the single image is all that you get. A single filament image does not fill the field as well, but does work. Once you have solved the lamp filament issue you can begin ...

Fixing Zeiss 100 Illuminator Concave mirror focus

Last spring I purchased a Zeiss Standard scope with phase contrast condenser, due to family and work issues, I couldn't test it for correctness. I had difficulties getting Kohler illumination, not matter what I did, there was too much light "bleed" where the iris never got sharp or had a halo around...

thanks Dale.

I'm wondering what is the difference between this AO 10, AO 20, AO 110 and other AO series. Did you buy this scope as-is with all the components or upgraded it to Phase Contrast post purchase.
