It is Photomicroscope III with "special illuminator", a very expensive option which allowed use of 200...

Re: From Russia With Love
I enjoy reading this thread! My microscopy experience started with LOMO units back in the late 80's in USSR! In fact I actually brought Biolam with me to the US. I had it equipped as much as Biolam stand would handle, including rotating stage with CT-12, MFN-11 photo head with "optovar", OI-35 illum...

ISO setting as low as camera will go (usually 50 or 100), and set exposure time to over a second. Thanks for your good advice- I will take it. Just one question- how is it possible to take pictures of living, moving things with such a long exposure time? thanks again[/quote] It is not. This is for ...

Re: camera -> microscope connection
It is relatively easy to phocus digital camera using almost any adapter, whether with projective, or direct coupling. The trick is to achieve confocality with your eyepieces, assuming you are using trinocular head. The idea is to be able to center and focus image looking through eyepieces and captur...

That's a lovely looking early black WL and a serious ICM-405. I have very similar collection, although my primary user is Universal. I find the ergonomics of ICM-405/IC-35 to be a little strange, with stage controls on semi-flexible stack overlaying focus knob. ICM-405 also requires long WD condense...

Almost any German, Swiss and Austrian scoped made perforé 1980's is going to be very high quality instrument, es[eciall it is as made as a research grade scope. Zeus Ultraphots Photomics, Universal, Standard WLS and even GFLs are prime examples. Leitz Ortholux, Orthopplan, Wild M20. Make your pick!

MicroInspector,
This is a photo of a typical toy Chinese microscope available in any department store. It is a very poor quality toy. The black tube on tope is use to top off immersion oil. You need about a liter for it to work properly.

Very nice! I have the same objective permanently sitting on my Universal, but no DIC slide. I use single arrow setup, and although it is not perfectly matched with 63 1.4 plana pour, it works.
You have very nice black WL sand too

Yes.
Pics are easy. I just have to get to my home lab tonight.
It is a nice clean stand and I will configure it for the buyer depending on what they will want to do with it.

I'm considering selling one of my Zeiss WL scopes. WL base on base extender (will work with Universal and Photomic illumionators). Rotating mechanical stage. All mechanics are smooth and aligned. No dry lubricant. Configuration will depend on requirements, but will include 5 objectives, mostly achro...

Forget about SEM. I think much better idea is to buy a small PWR (Pressurized Water Reactor), or LMCR (Lequid Metal-Cooled Reactor) and compete with National Grid by selling electrical power to your neighbors! You can buy one surplus from a decommissioned Russian submarine! Just put it in your basem...

You can assemble excellent Zeiss DIC system for TL for under $1000 if you know what you are doing, patient, and are dealing with honest sellers who will not stick you with delaminates optics.

I've been following this thread for a while, and I think my parciality to a particular brand of scopes is well known here. Having said that, in my opinion off-brand microscopes are not not necessarily bad, but they are not consistent. Either there is a problem with QC, or the materials used do not p...

Re: Zeiss Optovar or Intermediate Pol tube
All you need for transmitted light DIC are 2 Pol filters and 2 DIC prizms. One Pol filter goes on the DIC comdenser (Type 1 or type 2, get Type 1 and type 1 slider with single arrow, and you don't need individual prisms for the objectives). Than get POl (PAL) binocular head, and you don't need anyth...

Re: AmScope T690C-PCT200-PL sufficient for spirochaete viewing?
What started as a somewhat misguided question about equipment had turned into a debate about LBA and its merits. I agree with Mr. Tom Jones regarding merits of LBA. While ELISA and Western Blots can occasionally produce false-negatives, the statement regarding sensitivity of PCR is highly inaccurate...

Construction grade trash bags cut to size work well for me. I store my scopes in climate controlled environment, so it does not get colder than 18C and warmer than 25C. Not more than 65% humidity. No problems in decades.

Axioscopes are good machines. You have what looks like late 80s or early 90s sample. The first series share material and craftsmanship quality with late gray line scopes. Very servisable, but I lament the internal power source for the illiminators. I prefer the external units due to ease of repairs ...

This article is a main source for many when it comes to th evolution of Zeiss Standard series. Many years ago I owned an orifinal Zeiss L stand from early 40's. For that time it was revolutionary design, as most scopes of that period relied on straight tubus and any inclination was achieved through ...

Charlie g, I'm con-US, located in Boston MA. Your stand is Zeiss Junior. It is basically the same as GFL, sans removable stage and slightly different coarse focusing knobs. Firstly, infinity objectives are if anything , more complicated than 160mm objectives. This would be dependent on individual designs of course but the reason that both Leica and Nikon have both based their current objective designs on a 25mm diameter and in the case of Nikon at least, a 60mm parfoc...

Wow! That's an interesting progect! I wish I though of something like this. So, I think the forst thing is to simplify the light path by closing the side lever on the tube to prevent light from going through internal stand path. You might be better off with Universal in this case (and you can just b...
