Using filters
Hello, The condenser on my Motic microscope doesn't seem to have a place to place filters, although there does seem to be a very narrow space that could potentially hold a filter (it would have to be very think). Also, there isn't any mechanism for carrying a filter. So, I'm not sure if it is set up...

I've wondered that myself. A big, huge, giant eye in the sky all while the light shines from beneath. What a strange world it must be!

A super abstract photo of a water bear
This is a photo of a water bear, or tardigrade, taken as he was looking into the lens. Due to the ridiculously shallow depth of field we all know and love it turned out to be quite abstract. I like it, as it is a bit different from what is usually seen. Whether it works or not as a "decent photo" is...

Re: Greetings!
Thanks for all the welcomes -- I really do appreciate it. I look forward to being inspired by what I see here and learning a ton of stuff. As an amateur photographer my joke was always like "I wonder what other expensive hobby I can get myself into and use my camera." Scuba diving came to mind right...

Re: Water Bear!
Nice catch, Pat. Can one keep the resolution at 1080p with [youTube] code [\youTube]? Many times, when I clicked on such a code link, I did not get the option of picking 1080p. With a text link, I can select 1080p (I saw difference between 720p vs 1080p). I did shoot it in 1080p, but the version I ...

Re: Water Bear!
Congratulations on getting into the world of microscopy videos and nice catch on the Tardigrade. Just recently I started using a program called Handbrake for reducing the size of the files I upload to YouTube. For example, the video I uploaded yesterday was about 2 minutes long and had a file size ...

Re: Water Bear!
Hi, Pat. I've not viewed many micro-videos before, so that's the first video I've ever seen of a tardigrade. I thought it was very good! I can understand better now why they are called waterbears. In fact, I believe I could even discern what looked like bear claws! If that is one of your first vide...

Re: Water Bear!
A great find indeed! I think your video is very good, especially that this is phase contrast of a "very 3D" critter. If you happen to find another one someday, may I suggest that you also try brightfield and, if possible, oblique illumination? Thanks! I did try taking photos and video of him using ...

Water Bear!
It took some time, but I found my first ever tardigrade just last month. I experimented a bit with the video settings on my camera and discovered that it actually did quite well. I created a Youtube channel -- Hopefully I'll be posting more videos there in the near future as I learn more about makin...

Greetings!
Hello everyone, I just joined the forum here after reading quite a few posts last night. I am very impressed with the people here and how open you are with suggestions, instruction, helpful hints, etc. It really is just the place I've been looking for. I'm very much an amateur microbiologist, in fac...
