They were first known as Nachet et fils (Nachet and daughter). Paris in the 1880s. There must be a story there.

Greetings from southern New Mexico, USA
I've been lurking for too long. I'd better say hello before yet another year passes. I have a black Ortholux with many trinkets and a Leitz Dialux 22 nicely tricked out with Hoffman Modulation contrast as well as way too much miscellaneous stuff. I'm trying to learn more about swamp critters and imp...

Re: Leica DM IL (searching for correct set up info)
I know nothing about your microscope but the head and eyepieces were standard equipment on the 160 TL Diaplan, If you think it would help I could mount the Diaplan's beastly phase condenser and a Leitz 160 TL objective on another 160 stand but I'm sure it will give a decent image. This won't preclud...

LOMO has made some "contact" objectives. There's five of them on eBay as I write.
I have no idea of how they are used or even what they are used for.

Re: Leitz Heine condenser and Orthoplan
Hi,
Probably not. The PV series were made specifically for the Heine
back in the day when Leitz was using 35mm parafocal objectives.
Mount a 10x and see if you have at least another 5 mm of stage
travel. Better yet, wait for one of the Orthoplan users to chime
in.
Have fun.

Re: Leitz Diaplan Problem Solved
Thank you folks for your quick and encouraging response. After taking one of those pills I understood MichaelGs reminder to read the manual (RTFM). One figure clearly showed the condenser was removable. I had actually begun to doubt that. The problem was simply the condenser not being lowered enough...

Leitz Diaplan condenser problem
I just received the Diaplan listed on eBay as Not working Parts Only. All I really want from this 35 pound beast is it's rotating stage. To get at the stage I have to remove the condenser and I haven't been able to. Can the universal condenser be removed from its mount without major surgery or is it...

The Laborlux S comes with a POL analyzer.
This is a polarizing filter that slides into a slot beneath the head
and above the objective. It looks like a looks like black horizontal bar.
If this filter is damaged it certainly won't help your image.

Re: Heine Condenser and Kohler illumination
Hello Michael, Sorry for having been so terse in my reply. I was a bit busy. Here's a little more info. Leitz offered the Heine condenser early on in the development of the Ortholux, perhaps even in 1937. It's hard to believe but the early Ortholuxes were sold without even a provision for a field ir...

Just keep your iris wide open and you'll be OK.

Re: question about the difference background of phase contrast
You seem to have one too many condensers on your microscope. The 402a condenser is a "normal" working distance condenser, made to work on a 170 mm upright scope...not at all useful on an inverted scope. The tube that has "diaphram 1" is likely the proper condenser for the scope. There's problems wit...

Hi folks,
Here's a YouTube video I've enjoyed. It shows a Nikon rep
stripping down a Nikon Ti Eclipse, explaining as he goes.

I must admit that this Nikon is even nicer than my AO 1820.
I hope you enjoy.

Re: Unable to get focus on field diaphragm by moving condenser
Condensers are classed into two broad catagories: infinity corrected and those corrected to around ten or fifteen inches. See: http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/index.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/primer/ Read section 7 "Illumination" The AO 20 requires an infinity corrected condenser. Read the...

Re: Short Nikon S inverted 20x objective - how to ID
The subject line is a bit confusing but I think you might want a Long Working Distance (LWD) lens. Used in conjunction with a LWD condenser and the correction collar on the objective you'll be able to focus through the added thickness of a tissue flask or petri dish. Be aware that at least some 1970...

Re: Leitz SM-LUX Focussing
The SM-LUX is made for 45mm parfocal objectives. It sounds like you have the shorter 37mm objectives which were "standard" on 1930-ish Leitz stands. There are PLEZY adapters, short tubes with a lens, that will bring the lengths up to 45mm. They're a bit expensive, $30 -$50, if you can find them. Mos...

A Leitz Fluorite surprise or two
After following Rudi's thread "Olympus UPlan..." I decided to tell how two Leitz Floutars suprised me. A while back I got a 10x .30 Floutar from eBay to finish filling a nose piece with Floutars. The bottom lens was spotless. I mounted the lens and nose piece and checked the innards with a phase tel...

A thousand words are not necessary. It is obvious than the
condenser stop screw must be backed off until it no longer
interferes.
Check Google Pictures and you'll find a dozen or more images.
After savoring them you'll still have to back off that screw.
Have fun.

No need for photos. It's just a mundane Leitz condenser. The
only thing of interest is John's mystery piece.

Wow! And I said "They are mechanically identical." I should know better than to speak in absolutes when it comes to this stuff. In both of my condensers the iris stop screw has no threads protruding, just the little nub beyond its threads sticks out. This is what you need. I'm looking at your four p...

Re: Need help re placement & fit of Orthoplan optics - condenser K4 lens..
As you know, I have the 603 and an earlier (1968?) model. They are mechanically identical. In both, the mounting sleeve beneath the iris shows the tool marks from the boring but are reasonably smooth to the touch. There is no "little screw tip" nor is there any visible need for one. Perhaps there is...

Re: Another LOMO condenser issue
It sounds like your big LOMO's lamp is sending a parallel light beam, as if from infinity, to the condenser. The BFO-C condenser expects a diverging light beam, as if from 10 inches. The late Mr. Sterrenburg explains it nicely here: http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/primer/illumin.htm I doubt there is...
