I signed up today, watched a documentary about President Abraham Lincoln's life with my sons and we all love it VERY much. Only $20 PER YEAR for today (one can cancel anytime). I heard ...

The slide is very clean - so minimal touch-up in Photoshop

No idea - slide is from the Diatom Shop

Nothing special - still my trusty table tennis ball and a very bright external light.

I have a very bright spot light that i focus on the table tennis ball using a big magnifying lens.

Samurai wasp hatching from a stinkbug egg

Hi Guys, haven't posted for a while, hopefully will get more time now that the year is winding down... :D

Here is a short video of a Sumarai wasp hatching from a stink bug egg. The adult wasp is about 1mm in size.

Re: Help with Insect ID please

After some research I believe this to be a Samurai wasp - which lays its eggs inside stinkbug eggs. The larvae kills the stink bug egg and a single adult wasp hatches from each egg.

Help with Insect ID please

Hi All,

Hope someone can help me ID this insect.

It is very small - images shown are with 4x objective and it hatched from the eggs that can be seen in the first photo.

Re: Please help ID (some kind of rotifer I guess?)

Johann, great shot! Funny we found the same species just a week apart. First time I stumbled upon one. Seems rare, at least in my samples. Your image also shows the "fried egg" looking structure inside. Any idea what that is? http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=5358 Th...

This is the Polyarthra rotifer. A rotifer difficult to photograph due to its rapid movements and great "jumps".
