Re: Help! I Need to source a bulb for my Leitz SM Lux
Do you have a part number? There are a few bulbs here: https://www.morrellonline.com/store/c20/Leica_Bulbs.html I have a similar but POL scope with a 6V 10W bulb... Tried ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6V-10W-Replacement-Lamp-Bulb-for-Leitz-SM-Lux-Microscope/164048798207?hash=item26321201ff:g:xV4A...

Re: Hello from a Watchmaker (in training) in Germany
Welcome to the forum, Kevin. My father and uncle were watchmakers, so it's a craft which has always had a fascination. They both never used more than a loupe clipped to their glasses, though I know uncle had one at 20x which I found while dealing with his tools, parts, catalogues and the rest, I sti...

Re: Nikon Optiphot Fluorescence illumination - BF?
Careful , there's more than one epi illuminator. One at least is designed for the BD (Brightfield Darkfield) objectives which have the annular light path. That gives you incident darkfield. The normal MPlans don't have it. The BD's come as ELWDs as well as normal. They're better for normal front lig...

Re: Zero Working Distance Objective?
If you move "tube" lens too close to the objective, the latter will focus closer, probably as close as the front surface, as a retrofocus optic does. The effect would be more noticeable if you used a finite objective with the same tube lens. Try one with the TL setup you have now? The effect on IQ w...

Re: Windows 10
My take is that people used to have problems with Win10, but for various reasons it's not a problem now. If you have a computer stuffed with rubbish and multiple anti-virus programs and "free" junk, then any O/S would give problems. W10 used to need a heck of a lot of updates. Win 7 used to grow - m...

Re: Leitz Ortholux fluorescence microscope
If it takes the common "bath" shaped condenser, they do come along at low prices, around $30. I also have a non-working power supply, and no bulb, for UV, (Nikon). I think the scare stories about the UV bulbs are rather over hyped; that would be my preferred way to go. Surprisingly (to me), tungsten...

Re: Hello from Southampton, UK
I remember when there were several camera shops in Southampton. One on Bargate Street, one in Commercial Road and one Below Bar. That was before Tecno, LCE and the rest arrived. I suggest you look now at the Quekett Microscopical Society. meetings are dotted about. Recently I drove two folks from Su...

Could be, Michael, but I have yet to work out how, as I think I have control over my convergence. :( It's not unique - there are similar tales to be found on the net. Of course those dozen reports could be the only 6 in the world, moaning a lot... I thought I'd try my "new" SMZ again. I've been usin...

Re: Double images
Thanks for all the suggestions! I don't think it's a microscope fault; I tried several at a Quekett meeting. The one which was different was a stereo with a triple lens-pair turret, possibly from the 60's. It was quite "V" shaped, perhaps its focal axes were convergent. If I'm incapable of viewing a...

Double images
Does anyone know a way to stop seeing double images when using a binocular microscope? I always see two of everything, displaced sideways. With very low mag stereo microscopes it's OK. I have tried adjusting the interpupillary distance, the eyepiece correction, using my specs and not, and altering t...

Re: Nikon SMZ-2T camera connection
It was where I came in. I might carry this scope about.
I didn't think of proper(!) cameras being so low priced, or compact.
Yes it's a pity Nikon's 1" sensor cameras were... what they were.
Which of the later Olympi have a better shutter - on the Mercalli scale? I guess the price leaps.

Sorry I'd missed a few posts.
Thanks for the info.
That Olympus looks pretty good. I have a Canon 700D/t5i "spare" but
I was thinking of something smaller, like this:
But the Oly has advantages. There have been some cheap ones on ebay.

A used G1 might make a good choice, even if they are a bit bulkier.
Do they have a fully electronic shutter, or electronic "front shutter curtain"?

Re: Nikon SMZ-2T camera connection
The bung which is a good fit, also fits an Optiphot trinoc hole. Which I guess means it's 38mm. The round bung actually measures 39 point something. As Pau said on the other thread, modern cameras have such tiny sensors.... even 0.5 would mean a crop. Why doesn't everyone moan?? I'm still missing so...

Re: Nikon SMZ-2T camera connection
I didn't know it was originally for 16mm ;) , but what we have is a 2.5x projective works for 24x36, so , having half the diameter, would mean . a 1.25x would suit 4/3rds. But there isn't one, and the flange focal distance for C-mount lenses (if there is such a thing as a constant between the format...

For school we use a number of the Chinese cheap magnifiers, many with LEDs built in, for a couple of bucks. Most of them are absolutely fine. Some are glass doublet or triplet. Be aware that "magnification" has a variable meaning, as far as vendors are concerned. Some work on area, so what you thoug...

Saying " as is...no returns." means nothing. If you haven't disclosed a fault, you have to take the return.
There is no such thing as an "as is" listing.
Yes I've tested it, and won. Ebay rules, rule.

Blood smears?
I have a Nikon 40 NCG (dry)which I had some reason to believe was for blood.
A path lab might use oil objectives for diagnosis where they don't need to keep the slide?

It's worth mentioning that the 60D disappointed a lot of high mag micro folk because it DOES vibrate when the electronic first shutter curtain "opens". My 80D does it too, though I think somewhat less. If a continuous light exposure is long enough (say 2secs + ) then the vibration is only a small pa...

I bought a Leitz manipulator like the one on the right in the second pic, $125, after it hadn't sold for a while. I don't know what they cost new but it seemed a good price. I'll think of a use for it, one day!

The advantage here is that circular polarizers, complete with metal rings and threads, are now available for a few bucks each. Exactly. Somehow I learned to diverge my eyes so I can see it too, but it's quite a lot more difficult.
Rik Littlefield (wrote Zerene stacker & does talks) says hardly anyone can use the crossed-eye method and even fewer uncrossed eyes. I think it must be practice, - or motivation!

Re: 3D image?
You have the left and right the wrong way round if you want to use the crossed-eye method.
I find it "works" when they're swapped, but there are quite big differences between the images so it isn't quite as effective as it could be. Keep trying!
