Re: [DISSCUSION] - Permanent slide mount(s)

I’ve been trying several mediums. And I’ve had the most problems with insect parts. I tried thin UV hardened glue, but it never seemed to fill in completely around the specimen, and it glows in polarized light. Tried clear nail varnish, but it shrinks when drying. Great for sealing cover slips for d...

Re: What b&l model is this?

Now that you mention it, one was out of alignment (cross-eyed).
I opened the top, and it was obvious how the one prism had moved in the mount.
Easy fix. Changing the bottom prism is a bear, though.

Re: What b&l model is this?

I have several of these in my collection.
One of them has gotten condensation in that splitter chamber.
When this happens, it becomes the perfect environment for mold.
That one has green between the elements of the bottom prism.
The 16033 stand introduced in the 1950s are the best IMHO.

Re: Flat Field Dynazoom Operational

I have one of these from the medical school. Mine is the single knob version.
I agree they are a little ‘under-lit’.
The one I have doesn’t perform as well as a 1959 Dynoptic in the collection.
Probably needs some tuning, but I have higher priorities at this time.

Nice looking stand!

Re: Zeiss research microscope?

Welcome information, as always, Apo.
I had another brass Zeiss objective in the parts box, so I’m watching the Bay to see if the other two float by.
Not a daily sight, I’m sure.
I’m building up another Axioskop first.

Zeiss research microscope?

Here’s an interesting Carl Zeiss Jena microscope. I can find almost no info about it in English. My best guess would be 1920 to 1930, based on when American manufacturers switched from brass to rhodium or chromium or whatever Zeiss and Bosch and Lomb used. Spenser crowed about rhodium. I can’t belie...

Labofot 2 lamp house

Has anyone with a 3D printer made a lamp house for a Nikon Labophot 2?
Hardest part to find for a restoration.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Radazz, beautiful instrument and great photo! The quality of the micro photo is completely on the same level as what is shown here from much more modern instruments - very astonishing. The microscope design looks fairly modern. I have a Seibert microscope of the same age and it has a parallelogr...

I bought a retro fit set from an auction site. Polarizer sized to sit on the field lens, and an analyzer that drops into the nose piece above the objectives.

Re: LED vs. Halogen test

Radazz, I like very much this comparison ! thanks for posting ! Was the LED white (6500K) ? was the LED light filtered ? On my microscope, equipped with a retroDiode white LED, I use a KR12 warming filter to reduce the bluish-violet tint somewhat. 6500k yes.the first one. Don’t have such a filter. ...

LED vs. Halogen

After experimenting with LED lighting for a few years now, I must say, for me anyway, LED is very nice for observation, but I get much better photographs with Halogen.

My experience, can’t speak for anyone else.

Hoffman Modulation Contrast works great for protists as well. Doesn’t have the halos.

I must admit to wanting a DIC setup, but those don’t fall out of the sky.
