Re: Peacock feather 10x

Peacock feathers are really beautiful! Would be great to see it in even higher mag? Looks like an interesting texture on the fibers Thanks. I may try higher magnification, but the slide is not very good (AmScope), so not sure how it may come out. And I can't do reflected light photos after 20x with...

Re: Death Doubled

I was well aware of what was happening with the cover slip. I just saw an opportunity to make a little story out of the images. When I'm scanning a slide with pond water critters, I'm looking for something unusual, potentially humorous, or that lends itself to a little fantasy, tale, or story. That...

Re: Death Doubled

Interesting video. Why didn't you add water to stop crushing of the egg? I also think that methylcellulose (suggested many times on this forum) helps to prevent crushing by slowing evaporation and raising viscosity. About tardigrades. I keep reading (in popular press) how tough they are, but I'm ske...

Re: Fly eye

There is quite visible un-sharpness, especially in the lower right part.
Is this because of vibration? Or maybe the step size isn't small enough?

Re: Smear mounts and immersion oil

There are oil objectives specifically designed to be used with smears without cover slips, and these are marked like "170/0" and also "NC". I think these are mostly for hospitals to do more observations faster, because coverslipping takes time.

Re: Nauplius 100x

Very nice image or a difficult subject! Are you sure about the 100x? I normally shoot these at 20x. Did you use direct projection onto the sensor? Thanks! The nauplius wasn't very active: it moved a bit, then stopped for several seconds, then move again, etc. Maybe methyl cellulose I added helped. ...

Thanks! Nice! They work well inverted - better actually. (Out of curiosity I grabbed them and inverted them back in photoshop) By the way if you rotate the images (which are 1024 x 768) by 90 degrees they would appear larger. Microbehunter page size restricts width to about 850 pixels. I shot these ...

Really good work, Sergii! Tough subjects and tough to collect. We just had on and off rain, for an extended period , so apple scab spores should be just in the zillions. I will try to nab some, in the near future. Have you ever tried that? is it difficult? any tips? Thanks. I've found some fruits c...
