Re: Your earliest memories and experiences with microscopes?

My very earliest memories are of what was really a toy microscope given to me as a Christmas present almost 70 years ago. It gave very poor images but sparked my interest. Then a few years later I came across a beautiful microscope made by R Winkel of Gottingen in 1923. The shop owner agreed to let ...

Is there anyone out there looking to sell DIC equipment for this microscope? I realise it’s not cheap and I do have a budget but would like to hear what’s out there.Cheers

Re: anaesthetised paramecium

:ugeek: Thank you Bruce, I should have checked with you ( the expert first ). The sample was given to me by a fellow Microbehunter. He also gave me a specimen of moss from higher ground… another of the many fells in the English Lake District called Buttertubs. I’ll see what lurks there. Whereabouts ...

Laminar flow equipment

The subject of tissue culture intrigues me and I'm contemplating buying / making a laminar flow hood or cabinet. Does anyone have any experience in this field?
Realistically I would only be interested in UK based suppliers. I'm pretty experienced in a wide range of DIY procedures.
Thanks

Inverted microscope viewing

I've just acquired a Leitz Diavert microscope and am just about to make slides appropriate for the viewing requirements. I intend cutting 12 mm holes in standard slides and gluing a cover slip in place. Has anyone done this? Is there anything I should beware of other than ensuring a good seal all ro...

Re: Revolving nose piece

Thanks Alexander. Yes that was very helpful and I have achieved Kohler pretty well.....not perfectly because I still can't get exact centering. On looking at the inside of the nose piece it's clear that someone has been trying to adjust the spring mechanism that clicks the revolving nose piece into ...

Re: Revolving nose piece

My concern arises from being unable to achieve Kohler illumination. I'm finding it impossible to centre the field diaphragm with the condenser centering screws. There's always a a dark crescent.

Revolving nose piece

Is it possible for the nose piece, and therefore the objectives to slip out of alignment with the rest of the optics. My microscope is a Leitz Wetzlar Dialux?

Re: Phase eyepiece/telescope

Thanks apochronaut for your help. As I am in regular communications with the guy who sold me the telescope I decided, in the first instance to get back to him, judging that it could well be my inexperience that was the problem. And indeed it was therefore, for the moment I shall stick with the one I...

Re: Phase eyepiece/telescope

Yes the Olympus has a worm screw for focusing and I thought, as you say, that maybe there's not enough latitude in the movement. I did try lifting it slowly out of the tube as I continued to look through it but no joy. I'd be very grateful if you could try on the 170 objectives. If successful I'd be...

Re: Phase eyepiece/telescope

Further to my last post and, having received the phase telescope which is intended for an Olympus microscope , I find that it does not work for my Leitz. Is it the case that they are always specific to a particular microscope? I know that I can return this one so the request stands. Does anyone have...

Re: Focus mechanism of Leitz Wetzlar Dialux

Yes I've been trying on BF but am unable to focus and centre the image of the field diaphragm. Maybe the condenser itself needs an overhaul. The centering screws are very tight.

Re: Focus mechanism of Leitz Wetzlar Dialux

Thank you apochronaut. I've left it out again without issue.....so far.
Now I'm struggling to set up Kohler with the 402a phase condenser. This too may need an overhaul. I'll check out the site for info on doing this.
