Re: Leica M80 Plan Objective

To be clear I agree the Leica Plan 1x objective is probably well worth the $800 especially given the original suggested pricing. I myself tend to try and get the maximum performance for the minimum dollar ( cheapskate--LOL). I have been looking at Leica Plan Apo objectives wondering if the performa...

Re: Leica M80 Plan Objective

I post this comment on the topic not on the basis of analytical evidence, but only on my experience with Wild and Leica stereo microscopes now for about 40 years. My work is as a systematic botanist, and in all these years the microscope has been my work partner to accurately observe , understand, d...

Re: Nikon DSLR mounting to trinocular photo port

I second zzffnn 's suggestion about using a camera with electronic front curtain shutter. It makes, in my opinion, a big difference not only photographing through a microscope, but also in direct photography with extensions and specialized optics, such as Luminars. There is a crispness of the images...

Re: Leica/Wild: any special advantage in different tube+optic combinations?

Here I post a couple of images in order to compare the photo-sistems we were discussing. The first photo is the ventral view of the pollinarium of a Polycycnis gratiosa orchid. Pollinarium 1.jpg I used the same magnification on a Leica M80 stereo microscope (two images on the right, 2.5x with a 0.8x...

Leica/Wild: any special advantage in different tube+optic combinations?

For their M stereoscope series, Wild used an elbow tube (404891 or 18057), a 304490 tube with a Wild 10x/21 photo eyepiece , plus an eyepiece tube (404207) with a relay 0.32 lens (370759) mounted within a camera lens adapter (162226). The system was using two lenses , for a final enlargement at the ...

Re: Any experience with Leica Planapo 1x for their stereos?

Thank you Scarodactyl! Do you think that the larger working distance of the 10 445 028 model means that this lens has a longer focal length?

Any experience with Leica Planapo 1x for their stereos?

Dear all, this is my first post, and I am seeking for experience with Leica Planapo 1x models for their stereo microscopes. Leica’s technical literature is proverbially stingy with information about the optic characteristic of their objectives, and the expensive Planapo lenses made no exception. I o...
