Spirilium shaped bacteria.
I am in need of a spirillium shaped bacteria. I have tried unsuccessfully to culture bacteria from my pond scraping stuff from the underside of the pond lillies. No spiral shaped bacteria found successfully even though several different incubation conditions and o2 levels tried. Does anyone know whe...

Hi there. I live in Queensland, Australia and need to find a supplier of amoeba proteus, other than Southern Biological. Does any one know how I can find another supplier, I have been unable to keep cultures of this organism.

Re: Amoeba proteus slides
Hi Peter. Thank you for your reply. My process is a tad long winded. Essentially I use an old fashioned centrifuge that has 2 tubes and is hand spun to concentrate the organisms. Then put them through various solutions still using the gentle hand operated centrifuge, working as gently and as slowly ...

Re: Grantia slides
Hi Peter.
Thank you for your reply. You have given me some techniques which I will incorporate into my methodology for the next batch of grantia, I will let you know how they go.

Re: Grantia slides
Hi John B. Thank you for your input. I use a rotary microtone to cut the wax embedded specimen at about 10um. sections. Then place a cut section onto a slide that has a thin smear of an albumin product and a 3% formalin solution to 'maneouver' the section in place. I chose chlorazol black in 70% alc...

Re: Doing Diatoms
Thank you Rod, much appreciated. By the way love your passion and drive for isolating and 'capturing' those magnificent diatom images. Wonderful stuff, I love some of the old slides where people have made 'pictures etc' with various diatoms, they would have taken so much time and fine motor skills t...

Re: Amoeba proteus slides
Where can I get these 10um research pipettes from....? I would love to get some. I have tried 'playing' with glass pipettes to taper them to a fine aperture but I dont have any success with my technique.

Re: Grantia slides
Hi Peter.
I use a microtone to cut the sections at about 10um and adhere the cut section to the slide with a albumin type product. Then they are allowed to 'dry' a RT for a few days before placing them through a series of solutions.....etc

Grantia slides
Hi there. I have had some problems putting Grantia t.s. on slides and keeping them there wholly intact. I have stained them with chlorazol black but find that they are so fragile in xylol that the movement of the DPX over the specimen when placing the c/s over the top causes some of the specimen to ...

Amoeba proteus slides
Hi there.
Does anyone know how to produce permanent slides of Amoeba proteus without the other organisms that they feed on, i.e. chilomastix etc. in the slides. I have made two batches so far but I am unimpressed with my results....too few of the amoeba and too many of the other organisms.

Re: Doing Diatoms
Hi there. I noticed that you use glass centrifuge tubes. I have a small centrifuge that I spin by hand. It uses 2 glass centrifuge tubes both have around a 15ml capacity. Would you know where I could purchase some more of these glass centrifuge tubes? The usual suppliers of such things do not have t...
