Re: live samples
Do you have access to moss nearby? You could try taking a sample of moss and placing it in a small plastic cup of water, then waiting for a few days for microbes to grow from it. I found lots of rotifers starting to grow from this stuff. moss as in pete moss used to grow plants from seeds...

Other than water from the river what are some other live samples I can either order online or find in my home that I can examine with my compound microscope? Just looking for general observation fun.

in the amscope software that came with my MU300 camera, when I record video without checking the time limit box, it should stop recording when I hit the button but it only keeps 30 seconds maximum about even if I let it run a few minutes, why is this? it seems to have a maximum limit on the file rec...

Re: help! can't focus on 40x
I figured it out, I wasn't getting close enough to the slide with the 40x, I was afraid I would crash into it, it works.

help! can't focus on 40x
I can look at water samples fine with 4x,10x objectives with the 10x eyepiece but as soon as I try to use 40x objective i can't focus at all, is this normal or did I break it?

Re: My first slide
What other liquids I can find locally or in the house would contain living cells I could see under bright field... I threw out the river water last night for fear of contaminating my room so I don't have anything to look at today.

Re: My first slide
Thanks, I have a few questions. Can I wash the slides and slide covers and re-use them? or is that not recommended? Also, looking at the slides this morning I don't see the living organism anymore, did it dry out overnight between the glass and glass cover and died? thanks

My first slide
So yesterday I went down to the river and picked up some water from it, I recorded the first slide I viewed (about 5 seconds) and this is what I saw. Anyone know how I can learn to identify the organisms? anyone know what it is called in this slide? thanks

Received my new microscope today in the mail.
Today Purolator handed me my first microscope, its an Amscope T490B which can be upgraded to darkfield and phase contrast directly by amscope accessories. I'm waiting on another box that contains some slides and a 3MP usb camera. I set it up on my desk today but don't have any slides to use with it ...

opinion on this scope please
So I'm narrowing down to the scope I want to buy, I want to view living cells and found out I need a phase contrast scope and I'm not buying anything used. This is what I found, from what I read it seems to do everything I need, I also don't have to use stains to view the living cells. http://www.mi...

Re: microscope buying question
yes of course, that's why I choose that kit because of the 5MP USB camera and software.. And yes an optional darkfield kit is available and comptatible for that microscope as well, but out of the box will I see live cells moving? or does it require the darkfield kit?
