New microscope stepper unit

Just wanted to make people aware of a new wemacro unit that provides a focus stepping "bridge" between your stepper and microscope. It attaches to your fine focus knob and uses a wemacro stepper to automate your microscopy focus stepping. See http://extreme-macro.co.uk/extremist/new-focus-stacking-m...

Re: Macro Photography Web Site..

Mainly insects for now, yes. Once I've moved house, had a studio built and unpacked all my gear, I'd hope to be able to add some mineral-specific content as well. Likely to be a while though.

Re: LED conversions

Pete, can I ask, is there any reason why a LED torch wouldn't be able to be powered by a bench powersupply (DC)? I'm testing this out, in order to have a specialist UV torch machined so it fits into my epi housing and can be connected to the same powersupply that my normal epi light uses. But for wh...

Re: focusable photo relay lens... anyone use these can give advice?

@bilben: My camera on my trinocular is attached via something similar to this http://www.ebay.com/itm/CANON-DSLR-SLR- ... 0770947923 I believe this is a combination of an adapter to the proprietary lens mount of a DSLR and a housing for an ocular. Without any optics, just tubes. Hans No, there is a...

billben74, I'd be very interested to see your results as I may well be after one in the future.
mrsconchus - it does look like exactly the same thing, rebranded!

Re: Hello

Thank you zzffnn, that makes me feel better :) In truth, there was probably an element of predictability about buying something that's a little bit useless (ie limited), that's the danger of rushing in without knowledge. I hope though, that I can turn it into an advantage (that I have to use no cove...

Re: fluo questions

M Plan and DIC? Then I assume you mean reflected DIC? Reflected DIC has very limited applications such as circuit board/surface analysis. I use regular UplanFL and UplanSAPO for FLuo and it works perfectly. I cannot see why Mplans would not work. You have not said what scope you have bought, but I ...

Thanks Charlie, it sounds like we have a fair bit in common although your scope sounds very fancy :)

Charlie (Krebs) has been helping me with this purchase.

Hello

Hi, I joined up here to find out more about microscopy with no fear of asking some basic questions. I have just bought a Labophot with trinoc from eBay, and I'll be adding more exotic bits to this over time in order to be able to do photomicrography. I know that this for me will be a 5-10 year escap...

Re: fluo questions

Can't find any reference to what equipment you have. Do tell us. It would also be nice to see images in the My microscope section. Phase needs a dedicated objective but then it can also be used for brightfield, darkfield, oblique and a basic Pol. My DIC (Zeiss finite) works with Planachromats which...

fluo questions

Hello,

Can I ask, is it a requirement to have high NA objectives for epi fluorescence? I currently have DIC objectives; the implication is I need a different set for phase/BF/DF/oblique and yet another different set for fluo. Is that correct?

Thank you

Re: Which image processing software?

I use a Canon DSLR, take the images in RAW format, do the initial processing in Coral After Shot Pro, and the final processing in Photoshop. If I do any stacking (I should say when I do stacking since it is almost all the time) I use Combine ZP which is free and which I am most familiar with. Hi Ji...
