Re: Not sure, Schistosoma?

If you have any real reason to think you're infected (if you've been to an endemic area in the tropics, have symptoms, etc.) you should get it checked out by a competent professional I appreciate any help I can get. I've had an interesting health trip the past few years and though I am doing better...

Re: Spyrochete of Fibrin?

Thank you for the detailed explanation. Do you happen to know if syphilis is capable of the same pleomorphic behavior? I've done a fair amount of research so I know the tests are not that reliable, but twice I tested negative. I am aware the new Miyamotoi variant does not test positive on current te...

Spyrochete of Fibrin?

Got another interesting vid for you guys. I've been told by some that these are borrelia spyrochetes; however, most don't look exactly like a spyrochete and I've read some research articles that talk about these possibly being fibrin. I've also studied the work of notable pathologists who have used ...

Re: Not sure, Schistosoma?

Thanks, I could have swore that I read an article that talked about these being red due to feeding on red blood cells, but I can't find anything to that effect now. When I cross referenced other images, I found that indeed most were using a red stain. Thanks for catching that.

You didn't say what the sample was that you were looking at that had this thing in it. It does look an awful lot like a fiber.
CE
It was in a urine sample.

Re: Hey All!

Thank you for the welcome guys! I forgot to add, that I also added a pwm controller to dim the led. That is what the small circuit board with the knob is. Oh, and I also have a darkfield condenser that I enjoy immensely.

Also, here is the video taken previous to the photo. Seems as though there are some strange things going on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C6v4Mst4S7g

Holes in red blood cell?

Ok, while having a look at some blood the other day It appeared as though some of my RBC had holes in them. I shifted the lighting a bit and it became even more apparent. I believe I was using 65x with some digital zoom with darkfield/oblique. Is this something any of you have ever come across?

Hey All!

Just found this forum and since I began microscopy as a hobby a few months ago, I figured I would be able to gain some insight into some of what I'm seeing and how to better use my equipment. Anyhow, for now I have a couple AO microscopes and have converted one to led. Here it is. http://i.imgur.com...

Not sure, Schistosoma?

So, this photo is from when I just started playing with my old AO, 100x with some magnification from my camera, but I don't recall how much (sorry about the quality). The closest thing I found to compare it to is schistosoma. What do you guys think? I don't think it could be be a thread or artifact ...
