Thanks for the information. I am hoping my fluorescence setup will be here soon, it is in customs at the moment.

Another stunning and interesting image hkv!

Would the red bits be algae or other plant material? Fluorescence can really produce some interesting and unexpected results!

Stamen - Thunbergia alata

I have been playing around with epi-illumination on some of my favorite plant subjects. Initially I found it quite difficult as my scope arrived with a broken lamp and the closest substitute I had was only 15W and not the original 50W, I ordered lamps but shipping is slow to this part of the world. ...

After being out of town for a few days I got home yesterday to a nice surprise. The spares for the focus mechanism of the CH2 sent to me by the seller arrived so I can now sort out that scope. More importantly 2 new (to me) metallurgical scopes also arrived, a BH2 BHM from the USA and a BH BHM from ...

Re: Pollen - Phacelia tanacetifolia

Nice, Rudi. Did you apply polarizer over your epi darkfield light? For 10x shot, you may try high angle incident (regular overhead) light. Many times incident light gives better images, when working distance is long enough. Thanks! No, I did not a polarizer but I do have the option on the scope so ...

Pollen - Phacelia tanacetifolia

I found a lonely Purple Tansy - Phacelia tanacetifolia blooming in a corner of my garden. The pollen is quite large and blue/purple in color. The images were taken of the pollen still on the stamen using an Olympus BH-2 BHM metallurgical microscope. The illumination is EPI dark field. 10x objective,...

10A (minimum would be 8.3A) and 12V, anything over 12V would be wasted.

Re: using 110 power supply in Europe

Thanks RudiV, Good to know. I was thinking of using it as a substitute for both my 12v 100w Wetzlar power supply and the Cornelsen. Save on weight and the number of power supplies. From what I have read it is old school quality. Thanks again! Pleasure! But I don't think it will work for the 12V 100...

Re: using 110 power supply in Europe

Thanks RudiV, prefer the thought of a transformer (linear) - still, I suppose with a bit of patience I could find some thing that would suit in Europe. Re: using 110 power supply in Europe

On second thoughts, since you only need 12V DC I won't bother with a step-down transformer, it would be more efficient, and not much more expensive, to simply get a 220V AC to 12V DC power supply of at least 5A. Many supplies like that can be found on the web. A switch-mode power supply will be smal...

Re: using 110 power supply in Europe

You can buy converters for about $20-25, Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Voltage-Converter-220-240-110/dp/B001ES8YY6 Yes, this would work, just make sure you get one with a high enough rating, the 100W unit in the link won't work to run a 100W or higher input light, it is best to get one that...

Hi Charles, the reviews on those type of converters are not very encouraging. Was hoping a European member had actually imported a 110v power supply and could comment on the experience. Since I import a lot of equipment from the USA I am stuck often with the 110V to 220V conversion (we have 220-240...

Re: Fluorescent capability?

I managed to get a good deal on 4 mercury lamps. Seems like there are 2 versions, a cheaper one (HBO 100 W/2) rated at 200 hours and a slightly more expensive one (HBO 103 W/2) that is rated for 300 hours life. According to the Olympus manual you can use either, at only a few $'s more I opted for th...
