Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

I couldn't find a micro nut driver in 1.5mm hex with a outer socket diameter of 3mm. As I said, the M3 grub screw that I posted works flawlessly and you can easily grip and turn it with your fingers. Seems to me that everything else would be moot issue and a waste of time. You can buy 20 M3's keyed ...

Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

You can also just use your fingers IF you order the one I did ... or something like this if you don't have the tools to fabricate a handle.

Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

Well if it matters to anyone, the set screw I ordered from McMaster-Carr worked perfectly (M3x0.5mmx16mm long ). So the hex is 1.5mm. Keep in mind that I also went to ACE Hardware local to me but they didn't have it, that's why I ordered it. I made my purchase at McMaster simply because the drawing ...

Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

I've learned to try not and say anything with certainty but I think the hex shaft is not 2mm nor 1.27mm (0.050"). I purchased another 1.27mm cap screw today (meaning the hex is 1.27") turned it down to fit the bore but it doesn't work. So, for my last shot for now, I ordered a set screw M3x0.5mm 16m...

Use a file instead of a cutting tool, much less torque.

Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

... farted around with this again today with no success. I found a 0.050" Allen Cap Screw at ACE Hardware. Unfortunately I only bought one. Physically viewing the end hex it appears to be the same size as the male key in the turret. I even made another mold of it with a kneaded eraser, photog...

Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

Well I gave this a shot this morning. The smallest allen head screw I had required a 2mm allen wrench. I had to turn down the head to 3.22mm so it would fit in the bore of the turret. Unfortunately the allen key in the turrent isn't 2mm, so I'll assume that my original measurement was correct at 1.2...

Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

Maybe (note the maybe) you could make something similar to this. It's for my PZO Biolar DIC condenser. Obviously to be fabricated with the proper diameter for the bore and slot to span two opposite flats.

Re: HELP: Missing centering tool for Nikon Optiphot objectives

I tried using a gum eraser pushed into the bore. Best I could measure it across the hexagonal flat was 0.050". I don't have a wire EDM machine and wouldn't know how to operate it if I did.

I was referring to the adapter pin the image you provided. Not the adapter to the DSLR.
Thanks, I did a little searching but wasn't able to find any information on it. I know there's a beamsplitter and optics in it but that's about it.

I think your adapter is from a third party supplier such as Diagnostic Instruments.
Thanks for chiming in. Do you mean this or the adapter I conjured together?

Re: Polyvar MET (side camera port)

I removed the camera port from the scope and disassembled and cleaned it. I thought there might have been some misalignment issues internally that could be adjusted but that wasn't the case. So I was still dumbfounded. It's totally obvious when looking down inside the camera port tube that the indiv...

Polyvar MET (side camera port)

Anyone have direct experience with this particular side camera port on a Polyvar MET? The image isn't centered. I can't seem to find any documentation on centering/aligning the image and thought someone may know.

Re: Polyvar MET (mirror issue)

Thanks. I wasn't aware that the hole in the rear was for a HBO or fluorescence. Just checked out the manual. I bet those accessories are as rare as hens teeth. I had to make a knob puller to get the mirror flipping knob off (yes I removed the set screw), then I was able to remove the diverging mirro...

Re: Polyvar MET (mirror issue)

Strange, I'm not getting notifications and I have the box checked. Anyway, the problem I'm having is figuring out HOW to get the knob off so I'm able to remove the mirror assembly. I did remove the set screw completely. There probably is a flat on shaft. I see not screw in the END of the shaft so it...

Or perhaps I can rig up a Nikon lamp-house and power supply along with a Optiphot collimating lens to the hole in back of the MET? I have the components.

Polyvar MET (mirror issue)

I finally prayed to the Polyvar MET gods for motivation to work on the MET today. Everything 'seems' to be in excellent working condition but I am missing a few things. Today I wired up an external Nikon variable power supply to power the internal lamp-house it worked. Even the old bulb fired right ...

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

Has anyone had success mounting a digital camera on the side port of a Polyvar MET like the one I posted pictures of? Either the side port or PREFERABLY fabricating and modifying something that will work on the TOP of the MET microscope as some models have?

Very nice! How are the optics in the binocular tube?
FYI I'm not getting notification of new replies to this thread. I have everything setup to do so. Anyway based on the incorrect illumination I'm currently using the optics are excellent while viewing a wafer thru the binos.

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

Being completely new to the Polyvar MET, what are the best objectives? I assume they made other Fluor's and APO's. My MET came with;

Plan Fluor 50x/0.85 Epi
Plan 20x/0.40 Epi IK
Plan 5x/.0.10 Epi
Plan 2x/0.04

Re: Leica Reichert Jung Polyvar (models)

Me again,

1. So, does anyone actually know the difference between a Polyvar SC (semiconductor) and the Polyvar MET (inspection/metallurgical) scopes?

2. How would you attached a digital camera or 4/3rd's camera to a MET?
