Re: After a false start, my first scope! Olympus CH-2

Congratulations on the nice looking CH-2. Cleaning the eyepieces and removing the reticles shouldn't be difficult. Be sure to note the orientation and don't flip the lens. Before beginning do a search on cleaning the Olympus lens. Here's a good place to start; Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: Pond water slides and water deoxygenation

Hi Markus. I can't give you a specific answer. No doubt there will be a loss of oxygen but it should last longer than the 15 or so minutes with out the petroleum seal. It may be possible to penetrate the petroleum seal with a small hypodermic and force a few air bubbles into the sample. Micscape has...

This one is VERY dirty. It has been badly neglected, but
Google microscope clean up, etc., but be cautious of suggested solvents. Olympus has a good article on cleaning at the link below.

Re: WTB X-drive from Zeiss rotating stage 4227544

Thanks for the reply Jimur. Although the numbers are different, it looks identical to mine. Someone in another thread on here seemed to think I could get parts for around $100, which would be great, though I'm not sure where to get those parts from. Anyhow, I think you just want to sell the whole t...

Re: WTB X-drive from Zeiss rotating stage 473456

Not sure if the number you list (473456) is a serial # for the stage or a part number for the drive screw. I have this assembly with the number 4753082 appearing below the Zeiss logo if it helps. I use Leitz and Olympus equipment so have no real need of the Zeiss stage, but don't want to salvage par...

I haven't used one like it, but a coffee warmer will melt paraffin so I imagine this would as well. The problem will be in controling the temp.

Interesting Attachment......ID???

Anyone know the intended purpose of this attached mounting bracket? I think it is for a POL microscope. At first thought, such a DIY attachment would seem to be fairly easy to fabricate and offer some great potential for a non POL unit when using lower power objectives with longer working distance. ...

Re: A few starch grains from a potato

Thanks for the kind words mrsonchus. I was actually disapointed with the image but I find them rather attractive for starch grains. :) Producing these is quite simple. Just slice a potato, brush the "juice" from the fresh cut surface onto a slide with a drop of water and you have them. Under normal ...

Re: Does anyone tried metal washer and flat rubber o-ring as spacer?

These type slides are an alternative to a well slide Bob, not intended for permanent mounts. The idea of using a cover slip with them could slow water evaporation but normally they're used without one. With some protists moving constantly in and out of focus a "poor image" becomes somewhat a moot po...

Re: Does anyone tried metal washer and flat rubber o-ring as spacer?

If you intend to make well slides they would work. However I would use nylon washers, (available at the big box), and forgo the metal and o-rings. The nylon work very well. If you are wanting spacers, you could use broken cover slips, a drop of super glue spaced to roughly match to the corners of yo...
