Re: My microscope setup

Thanks for the comments, I have lived in my tiny house for the past three years, I constructed it during my PhD studies. I spend most of my time outside, at least until I got the microscope again, so the small size is not a problem. I also do not have a significant other (other than my black lab.) s...

Re: Wanted, Olympus First Order Red Compensator

I assume you need a high quality precision one? I use CD wrapper sandwiched between two glass slides, as I just want to add color and don't need anything precise/high quality. eBay search "quarter wave plate" also brought out many quality ones at low price, though they may not be Olympus. Yes, I wo...

My microscope setup

I live in a tiny house, yes one of those houses built on a car-hauler trailer. It is 20 ft long by 8.5 ft wide, so I understand having a small space for your lab.

I lived in Russia for two years as a wildlife photographer, I say that I am loving this thread as all the cities mentioned were places I have been or visited. Russia is a beautiful country with many beautiful people. Belarus (Minsk) is, most likely, the cleanest country in the world. Thanks for the ...

Re: Degassing plant tissues for better processing/mounting the easy way

I love it. I have worked in the microscopy field for almost 40 years. I have seen attachments, devices, etc cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. It is so nice to see someone come up with simple attachments to the job of expensive equipment.

Re: Did I accidentally create phase contrast?

I would be near impossible to accidentally produce phase contrast as the objective has a ground ring inside and the condenser has a stop that aligns with this ring. I agree with others, you have produced a form of oblique lighting and a very effective technique at that.

Hi Moose, The adapter is in good shape and I do have a spare NFK 2.5x projection eyepiece. $225 for both, including shipping. Tom Is it the gray color L adapter or the beige color adapter? Wanted: OM Photomicro Adapter L

Hi All; I gave the Omax USB camera a whirl but was not entirely pleased. Therefore, I hope to get parts together to mount my Canon 5DMarkIV on my Olympus BHS. I need an Olympus OM Photomicro Adapter L. I saw one on ebay for a bit over $200 which is out of my budget. Also looking for an Olympus NFK 2...

Re: New to forum, not new to microscopy

I am curious why you have darkfield / Rheinberg but not phase contrast. Phase contrast is pretty good with fibers, better than darkfield/Rheinberg, I would guess. Most forum people prefer DSLR over USB cameras, once vibration is removed. Darkfield and Rheinberg came with the scope when I purchased ...

New to forum, not new to microscopy

Hello All, I have been a microscopist for nearly 40 years. I trained under Dr. Walter C. McCrone, the father of Modern Microscopy. I started my career doing particle and fiber identifications of environmental issues. Later, I returned to school to get a Masters in Wildlife Biology and my Ph.D. conce...
