Re: My interview with Zeiss

Hi Nathan, this is a very interesting and well written article with great images! My main instrument is a Phomi 1, second edition which is quite similar to your one. I have a couple of epi-DIC components, not all in good condition, but they work to some degree. Have you already described somewhere,...

I say bring on the custom colors!

Here is my custom blue Zeiss universal I rebuild.
Did you bake the paint? It's a nice finish.
No, it’s just a rattle can job. There are a few little imperfections, but overall I was happy with the result.

Re: Intriguing objective

This is an image I shot with this lens. It is a stack of about 80 images rendered with helicon focus. It is an etched cavity in an aquamarine beryl crystal with some oblique fiber optic lighting with modified Rheinberg illumination also.

Re: Intriguing objective

When I started my Zeiss build a few years ago, this was one lens that I was in search of. Scarodactyl on here kindly let me know that he had acquired such a lens and we made arrangements so that I now have it. While I haven’t used it extensively as my Zeiss is primarily set up for epi illumination, ...

I am no expert, but Chalcedony is one of the many forms of Quartz:

And ‘fossiliferous’ means there are fossils in it

MichaelG.
There you have it...thanks for adding the detail of what chalcedony is for those unfamiliar with the term.

Re: Olympus image of the year competition

It would probably be useful to post one of your images and details about your microscope/camera setup so that folks can see if there are any readily identifiable problems. For my image in the Olympus competition (the prase opal honorable mention that looks like a coastline), I used a Nikon smz10 mic...

Really nice! I'd like to see more images of gems and minerals. This produced with epi-DIC and a full-wave plate? What objective did you use here? This is only epi DIC. No wave plate was used...actually still looking to find a wave plate for my Zeiss. So the first-order colors are produced by the DI...

Re: Diamond surface

Stunning! Is there a special name for the triangular structures visible in these photos and how did you produce the colors in the second image? This is all very, very interesting, a bit more detailed info on your epiDIC setup would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to invest in one. These triangul...

Re: polishing scratched eyepieces

If the top element is flat (I don’t have any experience with these eyepieces) I would suggest laminating a coverglass over the top element and using norland optical adhesive to bond the lens and glass together. You will of course need to cut a coverglass into a round disc to match the diameter of th...

I recently posted about my blue custom Zeiss universal and thought why stop there.... here are my other scopes currently in the stable.
