Re: Two-blades method - possible to improve?
There is a double scalpel knife, used in periodontology. It's often called a Harris knife, after the author who first described the surgical technique. They come in a variety of widths. I wonder if they would be useful for thin sections? Both blades are parallel, though, not angled like your descrip...

Re: Round slides?
Fan,
I like your idea of cutting down regular slides. Maybe I could cut small glass squares, and still tape them to a round SEM stub? It really doesn't have to match exactly (although round would look nicer). Squares would be so much easier to cut.

Re: Round slides?
Thanks all for the help. I've thought of using coverslips as slides... I've done that in the past for certain projects (I still have some mini-Coplin jars for staining coverslips), but these slides are going to get some rough handling- I don't thing coverslips will hold up as slides! The specimens w...

Re: My Zeiss
I just noticed similar electrical plugs on a wafer inspection probe station. That's my new theory about the stand. Mine originally came with a strange turret and non-RMS objectives. It currently serves as my Tessovar stand!

Round slides?
Does anyone know a source for round microscope slides, about 25mm glass?
Round coverslips are common, acrylic discs are common. I can't seem to locate glass slide discs.
They need to fit on a 25mm round SEM stub, after imaging with the light microscope...

Re: How to explain it?
Many years ago, when I was doing many clinical samples of oral microflora, new would occasionally see organisms that could not be identified (in addition to the normal types of oral amoeba). This was doing phase-contrast or darkfield on fresh, living samples. This was once a routine study for patien...

Re: Has anyone ever seen a digital microscope like this before?
I have had the microscope demonstrated at my lab several times. Very nice! The company representatives have been very friendly and willing to discuss prices, etc. but there are many possible configurations which affects the cost. I was looking at the BZ-X800, which is a fully automated fluorescence ...

Re: My Zeiss
I have the exact same stand and coarse focuser. Mine came with a monocular head and a ~3x long-working-distance objective that look typical for a mechanical shop microscope (although I guess they could also be used for hardness tests). Wow, great information. Mine had some parts of the head remaini...

Re: Zeiss Axiomat Issues
Well, Congratulations on the Axiomat. With certain stage configurations, you can't rotate the turret without lowering the turret or lifting the stage. There's no way around it. The working distance is too short. If you switch to upright configuration, you won't have the problem. The side mount camer...

Re: My Zeiss
All I can figure about the Invertoskop is that the engineers wanted to make many parts interchangeable with the Standard. It's a nice design, but I agree that it must be placed on a box to get the correct viewing height.

Re: My Zeiss
Good eye. Thanks for comments. It's a Zeiss micro-hardness tester stand. Then a small rack from an industrial epi-microscope. Then a stage holder from a Stereomicroscope. And an inverted Invertoskop D. The Stage is some miscellaneous shop-built stage holder with a Zeiss stage. Parts from at least 5 ...
