Leitz Heine condenser and Orthoplan
I have the opportunity to buy a boxed leitz Heine condenser set, with the following eyepieces; Pv 10/0.25 f.p.- O k Pv 25/0.05 Pv Apo L 40/0.70 n Pv Fl Oe 70/1.15 These eyepieces are mounted on a rotating objective carrier that I think fits the early black Ortholux. My question is will they transfer...

Wild M420 Macroscope Illumination
I have a Wild M420 Makroscope mounted on a Wild Heerbrugg transilluminating base which is equipped for bright field and dark field. The light source is a 12V, 100W, 3100 kelvin halogen bulb. The unit still has its original fan which works fine but produces a rather annoying background hum. I would li...

Re: Phase Contrast and Orthoplan
Thank you John for your insight. I have a further question on this matter. I have read a memorandum from Leitz (9/30/76) which states that 160mm objectives can be used on microscopes of 170mm tube length where the magnification is x16 or above without any noticeable affect on image quality. Do you k...

Phase Contrast and Orthoplan
I have recently acquired a phase contrast condenser (402a) for my Orthoplan. I am unsure as to which are the best objectives to use with this, 170 or 160's, Pl or NPL, fluotar, infinity corrected or not. I aim to do photomicrography once the system is set up. Has anyone any experience or advice in t...

Re: New to Microscopy
Thanks for that Amanda. I have now settled on the leitz Orthoplan and I am considering an offer of a Wild M7 stereoscopic microscope, while still looking at a Wild M420 makroscope. The real challenge is to find the accessories for the two latter scopes for use with polarisation. I also am searching ...

Re: New to Microscopy
Hi Charles,
Thanks for the pointer. Greg McHones site is an absolute mine of information, particularly with reference to the Olympus. I wish I could find such comprehensive info on the Orthoplan

New to Microscopy
I am new to microscopy. My interests are thin rock sections, minerals, biology and microphotography. I have the opportunity to buy a good Leitz orthoplan or an Olympus BH2 BHT. Both are configured for BF/DF use. Can anyone tell me how easy it is to make these instruments function with PPL and XPL an...
