Re: The Dirty Cover Glass Blues

Camera sensors aren't too bad if you just buy the kit and follow the instructions carefully. Unfortunately my budget won't let me do that every time I want to clean a lens or slide :(

Re: B&K Balplan

Come to think of it it's really curious the microzoom didn't have an epi df option. Between that and DIC it's weird that the balplan's industrial big brother missed out on two such nice and seemingly relevant features. Maybe it had a pretty narrow set of requirements as a baseline wafer inspector, o...

Re: Leica DM

I wonder if something like copper corner trim (like a really light copper angle iron) could be bent into shape to hug the dovetail. Seems like it might hold everything nicely if it worked, though that'd be a bit of a crapshoot.

Leitz 42mm head with an erect image?

Just a quick question--I have a longer-term project on the back burner to build a Wild-Leitz macrozoom fluorescence system (predecessor to the now-also-discontinued MacroFluo system). I have the adapter and focus mount that holds the parts together, and it takes a 42mm dovetail. I was wondering if a...

Re: The Dirty Cover Glass Blues

A general cleaning approach is to get a box of q tips and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, wet one q tip and wipe, use another to soak it up before it can dry, throw each q tip away after one use.

with an adapter sleeve for who-knows-what. ooh, ooh, I do. it's for the older-style threaded camera port on a stereozoom 7. I guess a 42-12-30-15 is what's called for, or at least the 3x adapter from one. I imagine it is vanishingly rare, as I've never seen one. Edit:here's a pm thread about one. L...

It screws on. Amscope does sell a cmo line where you'd have to remove a 1.0x plan pbjective to install a 0.5x, but you would know if you had one.

There is a cheap substitute for the photomicro L which I liked better than the Diagnostic Instruments replacement I tried (better dovetail match). http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9093&p=78129#p78129 I have two in surplus to my needs but I'm in the US and postage wou...

Re: Epi DIC woes

At this point I can't think of anything other than my prisms being bad, but they look fine and it seems to have affected all three almost equally. Have you tried turn the objectives a bit in place to see if adding distance might improve the image? Yes, though only to a limited extent allowed by the...

While you should read the above link, yes. Microscope cameras almost all use a standard c-mount to connect. Different sensor sizes call for different relay optics for best results though.

Thanks for co tinung to dig on this! That ibtermediate style is really odd--mine are definitely the BH3 style. I can't remember if I've picked your brain about this--which prism do you have on the Olympus 10x? I have a "10 T-2"
I am really glad to hear the ghosting isn't a univeral problem with this system, but I've also seen it in pictures from other olympus system (rare though such pictures are).

Re: Best DIC options?

I wonder if the balplan DIC could be adapted onto a microzoom. Kind of surprised the microzoom didn't have DIC natively like the Mitutoyo Finescope (which, if my timeline is correct, I think the microzoom was a copy of and not the other way around?) Maybe early Finescopes didn't either.

Re: Will a Nikon Labophot Optiphot trinocular head fit on an Olympus BH-2?

Natively no, the nikon dovetail is 49mm in diameter while the bh2 is 42mm. Rafcamera sells an adapter (https://rafcamera.com/adapter-d48-5-to-dt42mm) for putting nikon s series heads onto olympus bodies, s series have a 48.5mm dovetail and with some dremeling I got it wide enough to accept the 49mm ...

Of cpurse Leica pioneered a unique solution to this in the late 90s: scopes that start put boring but get more colorful over time!

Re: Nikon SC or YS - Beginner Microscope

I'd go with the alphaphot YS--it's part of the general labophot/optiphot line and objectives and head accessories are compatible, so you can easily collect accessories and objectives on it which can be moved over to a higher end stand if you want to in the future. If I'm thinking of the right one, t...
