Re: 75$ ! Olympus VMT stereo microscope, 1x/4x + 1.5x aux, illuminated base

My latest one on eBay sold for a bit less than the last one, so I dropped the price more here--I want it to always be a decidedly better deal here than on eBay.

Re: How much camera before diminishing returns

Again the microscope pictures shift when I take photos so I have to call AMScope to see if this is an alignment issue. This is totally normal, if you mean a consistent horizontal shift as you focus in or out. It is inherent to stereo microscopes, and helicon can handle it fine. To me, it looks like...

Re: Bausch and lomb 53-70-34 eyepiece--what is this used for?

If you need a bad one to pull apart just drop me a line.
edit: by the way, how do you get it up to 240x? Or is that only with the rhomboid arms? Mine came with a .5x auxiliary but that was it, and the baseline zoom range only goes up to 3x.
edit 2: how does the zoom 500 fit into this?

SOLD -- Wild M3 stereo microscope on custom stand

Wild M3 stereo scope 250 plus shipping or best offer. It weighs 16 pounds for reference on shipping. https://i.imgur.com/3X15Ne0.jpg This is a classic Wild M3 (the original, not the b, c or z). It has a step mag changer with three settings, 6.4x, 16x and 40x. It has a non-plan achromat objective bui...

Re: Bausch and lomb 53-70-34 eyepiece--what is this used for?

Cool! I have a zoom 240 set sitting under my work bench, though it ended up being about 10% mold by weight. It sidn't have any of these though (it did have 3 pairs of uwf eyepieces which were somehow not ruined though, so I wasn't too upset). (If anyone wants a moldy zoom 250 in a moldy box, minus t...

Bausch and lomb 53-70-34 eyepiece--what is this used for?

I keep seeing these odd eyepieces on eBay from time to time. Can anyone tell me what it is used for?

Re: How much camera before diminishing returns

Scarodactyl, thank you for the feedback on the Canon XSi camera. Having no experience with photography with stereo/microscopes I was not sure if the actual photo was the reason the LMScope.com rated the camera as poorly as they did. What camera did you upgrade too? And yes I noticed the bug you men...

Re: AO Stereo Star 580 collimation

Thanks. I did check the housings and such, both were quite snug when I first got to them. As far as I remember it was consistent through the zoom range, fortunately pretty slight but I think I'm a bit sensitive to it since it gives me a mild headache pretty quickly (maybe psychosomatic). At this poi...

Re: AO Stereo Star 580 collimation

Contrary to what I've read online (here and elsewhere), the 580 does not contain any prisms, unlike the cycloptic (funnily enough, the B&L SZ7 does have prisms, exactly the reverse of some comparisons I have seen). The 580 just has four mirrors in each ocular. As far as I can tell this one never saw...

AO Stereo Star 580 collimation

Hi everyone. I recently got my hands on an AO 580 stereo scope. It's in great external condition and after taking it apart to clean the lenses and mirrors it produces a very nice image (somehow many of the lenses had acquired a dusty haze, though it was easily cleaned off and there was no fungus). H...

Re: How much camera before diminishing returns

I have used an XS on a variety of microscopes, and I don't think one in good condition should introduce any issues. Its problems are generally not with picture quality but convenience (it has an annoying bug where the live view is significantly dimmer than the captured photo). The t5i will probably ...

Re: Looking For Nikon S-series Trinocular or Binocular head piece.

I have a vague recollection that these older s series scopes have the same head dovetail as the labophot series? If they are compatible getting a good trinocular head on eBay should not be too hard, as reasonable deals seem to come up fairly frequently.

What is this a photo of? The magnification would help contextualize it as well. They look a but like fine cracks to me, though I am not sure that would be a sensical answer.

This might be a dumb question, but have you done an apples to apples comparison of stacking speed? I have a 4mp nikon microscope camera on my smz1500, amd I was amazed how insanely fast helicon would stack those vs the 18mp from my canon, practically instantly.

This might be a good use case for one of Vision Engineering's big projective heads. I have not used one myself but have heard good things.
Oddly, my dad could not use a Nikon smz-10 (I tried with two good copies), but the b&l stereozoom 7 and a few others are fine.

I am guessing I'm not the only person who saw the Moody Science video 'Hidden Treasures' at a young age. It was old when I was a kid but it has some superb imagery. I would think a direct olympus to nikon/canon adapter would be fine, though not completely optimal for sensor placement. This is just a mechanical adapter after all, and it might make more sense to just make your own for a different camera type.

Does the NA not drop at lower mag settings? I know it does on some systems (macroscopes like the az100 or the leica z series), presumably since the objective is only really high res at the center where it counts at higher zoom settings, and stopping down at lower mags makes the ce ter match the lowe...

The Olympus szx7 is in their current top line of research stereos, though at the bottom of the top. It has some modularity and high quality apochromatic optics.
