Re: My Zeiss Microscopes

Thanks for the close up photo of the beam splitter - is there an ID (catalogue number ) on it? It has a number on it: "133682". But this is a serial number, so just a sequential counter that Zeiss have assigned in the past. Later they changed to a catalogue number what identifies better. If you wan...

Re: Bryozoa

Thank you Charlie & Sunshine. The photo is also some years old and I never had the luck to spot again. Really an impressive photo, I like it very much. Must have been quite some work...stitching and stacking? What software do you use for stacking?

Bryozoa

Like to share an older photo I have taken from a pond. It is a Bryozoa individual with its ciliated feeding organ (lophophore).

Re: My Zeiss Microscopes

Actually you need to fit a new LED. The original LED has multiple segments and therefore is not suitable. But I found the bulb socket quite nice to use for fitting a Cree-LED. Maybe the below foto tells the story better: http://up.picr.de/32323074yt.jpg I used the alu metall sheet of the original LE...

Re: My Zeiss Microscopes

Below the the photo with the flash mounted at the Zeiss Standard: http://up.picr.de/32322499oc.jpg Actually it makes not really any difference, the filament of the 60W bulp stays focused, even after mounting the beam splitter. Seems that the few more inches distance added are not critical. Makes sen...

The green color might come from the brass metall, some copper iones due to some corrosion etc.?

Re: Objective has defect

Probabely some Immersion Oil inside? Before throwing away you can try to clean. I did dismantle and clean an Zeiss achromat 40 completely up to the front lense :-) Between the front lense and the following lense there was the oil. Actually I did not believe that I get all those lenses and stuff corr...

Re: Paramecium bursaria

If the protists are moving fast it is certainly just a lot of hit and miss. But the paramecium is not such a difficult one. I am sure he has rested from time to time. Especially when there are some algaes or detrius is present. Another technique is to wait until the ciliate is just captured by the c...

Re: My Zeiss Microscopes

Some details on the flash system: It uses the old Zeiss beam splitters used for the analog cameras at that time. The camera was connected on the top, on the side there was an optical view finder installed. The beam splitter just has an mirror with fixed split ration 30/70, no other optics is inside....

Hi Charles, I just browsed through all of the phantastic Zeiss Microscopes reports that you have shared. How many do you actually own if this question is allowed? Re: Paramecium bursaria

Hi Charlie,
the picture is not a stack. The flash is really the key - the extremly short flash time itself somehow "freezes" the cilliate movement. Also the optical section by DIC really helps to make it sharp and crispy.

Re: Paramecium bursaria

Glad that you like the pic.
Its from the vertical Zeiss IM35 microscope which has flash and DIC equipment. I use large cover glasses as carrier, so it has the right thickness of 0.17 and I can use the convential objectives & not the large distance ones for dishes.
