Re: Amscope Digital Camera to Olympus BH-2

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the photo I posted earlier of the (human) blood smear was taken with the 40x SPLAN dry objective, and the only cropping was done by the camera and adapter. That should give you some idea of the magnification of the adapter setup. I wish I could give you a side by side...

Re: Amscope 18 Megapixel (18MP) USB3.0 Digital Camera to Olympus BH-2

I don't know, have never played with one of those. That is a darned good image though. You have a great scope there, and your camera seems to be doing a fine job. You have to admit that the USB cameras are very convenient, and once you get the hang of the software it is very powerful. Keep the image...

Using either setup the image field will be smaller than your visual field, sorry. But I think that most camera setups crop the image to some extent, its just something that most of us learn to live with.

Re: The very weirdest thing I've yet seen

It's rather odd that most of the water bears I found were in fact dormant. I've only seen a few that were moving. I've been wondering about that. Actually it's been the same with rotifers I've found, very few moving, and the great majority dormant. I've no idea why. How / where do you store your sa...

Re: Sample from new pond: what turned up

Several nice finds, thanks for sharing them with us. Next time you find one of those desmids, look closely at the tips... often you can see small droplets of oil dancing in them. Some of your images show these droplets, perhaps you didn't notice them. These desmids are rather large, perhaps some wer...

Re: Amscope Digital Camera to Olympus BH-2

You wouldn't need the U-PMTVC with a DSLR. Its purpose is to fit the image to the smaller sensor of a video camera, and so it is a fair fit for the USB cameras. Here is what Alan Wood says on the subject: http://www.alanwood.net/photography/olympus/c-mount-video-bh2-microscope.html I tried it with m...

Re: Amscope Digital Camera to Olympus BH-2

You should be able to operate this way, though I think the Olympus optics will give you better color correction. I used my little 3mp Amscope camera this way on my BH-2 for a while. I eventually replaced the Amscope reduction lens with the Olympus NFK 2.5 and the Olympus U-PMTVC adapter. I like this...

I just noticed tonight, that since this dragon fly nymph is gone I now have a new population of amphipods in that sample jar! I didn't add them, I guess they are repopulating now that the nymph isn't there to eat them all. Yay!

Re: New objective dusty inside... Amscope poor quality

Update: The replacement objective arrived today, and it is at least much cleaner than the first one, but it still delivers a very poor image in all my scopes. I guess it just isn't optically compatible with my scopes. It says 160/0.17, so it isn't a finite / infinity mismatch. Oh well. Back they bot...

I just got an email back from Amscope, they are shipping me a "tested replacement" along with a prepaid return label. If I don't like the replacement I can send them both back for refund. That seems like pretty good service. Stay tuned. CE Oh, and thanks Phil for the mention of the other objectives ...

Re: New objective dusty inside

This objective is going back! The focus is very soft and contrast very poor. I tried it with all my various eyepieces and all my LOMO stands plus the BH-2, as well as with a variety of subjects. My LOMO shorty achromats are far better than this. I guess it would be ok to someone who didn't know any ...

New objective dusty inside... Amscope poor quality control

Looking at a newly received objective under the inspection scope, I see several specs of "dust and stuff" on the inside surface of the front (bottom) lens. Generally speaking, how much of this contamination does it take to be noticeable in the final image? I don't think I have seen any like this bef...

For what its worth, I spent a lot of time on DIY LED conversions for a couple of my LOMO scopes, documented here in the forum. Ultimately I went back to the original halogen illumination for both. I tried cool white, warm white, and neutral white LEDs with very pleasing results (neutral white was th...
