Re: Nikon epi-illuminator - now what?

Here's a few photos of the present state. The rightmost part is taped to the black ring that ends the epi-illuminator. Of slightly reduced diameter, the inner tube is on the left, with the aluminum bracket that carries the LED sticking out: http://iconoclastica.nl/web-storage/epi-illuminator/img_006...

Nikon epi-illuminator - now what?

After biding time for more 'n a month now finally the cree-led and its driver have arrrived from China. The mounting of the pair onto the epi-illuminator turned out easier than I had foreseen. I was lucky to find two cardboard tubes that neatly fitted eachother and the entrance of the illuminator. A...

Re: A DIY LED ring for darkfield

Hm, I think I just would like to try that, although metoo has too many projects at hand right now. It's not as if my other solution to get DF works that well. First I'll see if I can scavange a whole array of them from a light bulb, for ordering from China takes ages these days.

The 210/- 60x and 100x seem to stand up quite well when used with cover glass, but admittedly, I am still waiting for a 100x/0.17 for comparison. For the moment I'd say: sub-optimal doesn't equate bad, but I may change that opinion in due time.

Re: A DIY LED ring for darkfield

I was thinking along the same lines before I reached the end of this thread. I even ordered some acrylic rods this afternoon to cut in half: the semi-cylinders just might work as acceptable condensers. An oblique fs-mirror allows a 90 degree angle in the design (leds vertical) and perhaps fine adjus...

Re: Vertical Illuminator for Nikon Labophot question

When the tube is lengthened from 160mm to 210mm, the 160 objectives still produce good images. However, you loose parfocality, which is particularly obvious in the lower magnifications. For example, when turning on the 10x coming from 4x, I have to move the stage down one royal half turn with the co...
