The 'Standard Junior' if you look through the posts on this website still seems to be a popular oldtimer and well loved by it's owners.

Re: What was your First Microscope?

Good on you Dave, and we wish you many more years of fascinating microscopy. The average weekly wage in the UK as of June 2019 before tax is 505 pounds, so you would have 1515 pound to spend on a microscope today. Less tax of course, not a bad scope. :D

Re: What was your First Microscope?

When I was 8 (some 65 years ago) I used to play in the boxes and jars of my dad's 'bits'. Nuts bolts and other assorted odds and ends that he had accumulated over the years. I remember a tube made out of 'tuffnel' it had a rack and pinion bolted to the side with various bits an pieces attached to it...

What????? I guess it depends on what you are shopping for. I hate shopping for 'Fabric', there needs to be a coffee shop nearby, where I can wait for my wife to come out.

Re: Hello Microbe Hunters - New Here and Ready to Buy my Next Microscope

Hi Beerbatter. I have exactly the same scope as the one you are considering with 2 differences. The object turret only has places for four objectives and instead of 'Amscope' it is marketed as 'Bresser'. I removed the 100x and replaced it with a 60x. I bought it at the suppliers 'Open Day' so I had ...

Yes it was not taken in the best of light as it was dark when I got back home, so I used a 'kopf lampe' one of those very small LED headlamps that go on your head for walking at night. For 9,99 Euro it's the business. I have never even tried the other two lenses that came with it as I bought it spec...

Re: Home made (Very Basic) Microtome

Tried using carrots. I have found that trying to get the stem to cut correctly in the middle of the carrot is a pain. I find the easiest way is to put the whole carrot in (at just less than the size required) and then pushing the sample you wish to cut to the back makes it very easy to do. https://i...
