Re: Antique Slide Cabinet and Slides

And here are some of the diatoms slides taken on the B&L SZ7 and Canon T3i. A few did not have any information of who the mounters were but some really nice arrangements:

Antique Slide Cabinet and Slides

The antique cabinet, from this post: http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5886 , with slides arrived this week. The seller packed the cabinet really well but did not do anything to the slides or trays to keep them from flying around during shipment. Surprisingly they ca...

Re: My Zeiss Microscopes

Welcome Jochen,

A very nice selection of Zeiss scopes. At least four with DIC! I guess you was shaking with excitement with all your beautiful Zeiss scopes (seeing most of the pictures are a bit blurred). I almost thought I was looking at some of mine!

Re: Reichert Zetopan?

Congratulations. Looks like a nice Zetopan. There are two levers on the top of the base near the focus knobs, one on either side, which controls where the light goes/comes from...epi or transmitted. Here is a manual of the Zetopan: http://www.science-info.net/docs/reichert/Zetopan1.pdf http://www.sc...

I counted 36 drawers, which would make 432, if it is full. Zooming in on the second drawer photo shows Test Diatoms and Diatoms.

I'll find out when it gets here. He accepted $325. :D

Re: Looking for first microscope

I have another suggestion on the illumination brightness problem. You could get a different power supply, one that will allow you to reduce the voltage below the min 5v you now have. See link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/CARL-ZEISS-LEP-Ltd-Microscope-Power-Supply/273113679851?hash=item3f96d807eb:g:mxU...

Re: Super cheap Carl Zeiss phase Condensers on ebay

There are some nice Zeiss accessories there but the bidding hasn't ended...still has 5 days to go. His descriptions are fairly good at describing the faults. The INKO/DIC condenser has peeling phase annuli but they don't show the DIC prisms. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Carl-Zeiss-1-4-0-32-Red-Achr-A...

Re: Oil immersion tolerances

I think the pipet procedure would be a good solution. The way I do it so as not to crash the coverslip (as long as the objectives are somewhat parfocal) is to first focus with the 10X, then switch in the 40X and fine focus, swing the objective out of the way, put your drop of immersion oil on the sl...

Re: Looking for first microscope

There are Zeiss Phase condensers with the flip top, as you can see here on the left: 2 Phase Condenser Flip and Not.jpg There are also a variety of condenser tops. Most without the top screwed in are 0.32 NA. There are also the 0.63 tops (yours), which are primarily used for inverted scopes for for ...

Re: Looking for first microscope

You can adjust the brightness by plugging into a lower voltage setting on your power transformer.

For Phase, the WL manuel, Chapter 3 goes through the steps for using phase.

Re: My First Diatom Hunt

Hi Bob, These videos have been out there for a few years and I think they were made in Japan for the study of diatoms and water quality. I don't think it was for the money but looks to be a project. Yes, alkaline based drain cleaners should be avoided since they will damage the glass frustules of di...

Re: My First Diatom Hunt

You may want take a plastic bristle brush or toothbrush, a scoop or large spoon and turkey baster, plastic containers or large mouth jars with lids, tub and plastic Zip-lock bags. For the collection of diatoms in a stream, I would collect from the underwater plants and surface of rocks. For the plan...

Re: Looking for first microscope

The seller probably didn't know how to remove the condenser via the front pin and loosened the two rear knobs to get the condenser out for shipping. The seller was probably not the one who used it last.

I should also point out that the condenser has a V shaped notch on the mounting rim. For proper condenser alignment, the front spring loaded pin fits into that notch.

Re: Looking for first microscope

The two knobs you circled are for adjusting the position of the condenser for Kohler illumination. The knob in the front is a spring loaded holding pin for tension. When you remove or put the condenser in the condenser holder, pull out on the front knob and then you can remove the condenser without ...

Re: Looking for first microscope

Looking good and congratulations! This scope will last a lifetime and then some else's lifetime. The power regulator has different voltage depending on which holes you plug it into. The best option is use the 6V holes. The lower the voltage you use the longer the bulb lasts. There was never a cover ...

Re: Another Zeiss Tessovar Question

I think the dimensions of the blocks are in relation to the focus stand height the Tessovar is on and the thickness of the sample being used. You could probably make one block with the three different heights and turning the block can change the height of the sample.

Zeiss models are varied. They are all considered Standard from the very large Ulraphots to the small KF-2 and they all can interchange heads, eye pieces, objectives, stages, condensers and lighting. The research grade Standards are the Ultraphots, Photomicroscopes, Universals and the smallest is the...
