Re: Advice about possible Bh2 purchase please

I think the Bhs-2 line did use infinity objectives when the right vertical illuminator is present in the optical path. The vertical illuminator contains the necessary tube lens. But for standard illumination, it uses 160mm lenses, with optical correction provided by matching oculars.

Re: help! can't focus on 40x

Starguy, Assuming you have a scope with parfocal optics (all modern scopes are), the best way to do this is to start at lowest power and achieve a focus. Then as you go up to the next higher power, you should already be at (or very near to) the proper focus point. So if you focus and center the spec...

As far as responding emotionally, I am probably as guilty as any of the responders to the now-deleted thread. Oliver's advice to cool down before posting is indeed good advice. Based on the OP's explanation of what happened, and not knowing what was edited from his explanation, I suppose the OP shou...

Re: Olympus BH-2 Question. Lamp intensity adjuster. Faulty?

Over the life of this model Olympus used a lot of different LED indicator boards and there were differences in the colors of the LEDs. The problem is probably a failing circuit board. Since the instrument is long out of production original replacement parts are no longer available, but there are af...

Re: Olympus BH-2 Question. Lamp intensity adjuster. Faulty?

The electronics of the BHT/U scopes is described in detail in an article I wrote a few years back. Google "bhtu electronics PDF" and you'll find it. Looked it up: very nice work! Thanks. There are a few versions of the article out there. Be sure you've got the latest version. Edit 4/14/2019: Replac...

Re: Olympus BH-2 Question. Lamp intensity adjuster. Faulty?

I recently repaired a BH2 with exactly that symptom. Had a bad transistor on the dimmer board (not the power pass transistor). Was an easy fix, part was easy to find. real covers slips......? Dale You'd be amazed at the number of beginners who complain that they can't see anything through their 40x or 100x objectives. Upon questioning, they are sandwiching the specimen between two slide blanks, and can't get close enough to focus due to the short working distanc...

Re: what about see though spiecemens?

Good lord, You guys been insisting to make microscope spiecemens thin as tissue paper. Specimens should indeed be thin. If not, then there is too much "out of focus" stuff in the field of view such that it obscures the detail that would otherwise be present in the focus plane. Also, the resulting l...

Microinspector, Why not just pound it flat with a big old mallet? Thin it will be. Do you want to examine the structure of your specimens, to "reveal the truth of life", or do you want to look at smashed bugs? I vote that we are being trolled.

Thin sections are not going to happen with a carrot peeler...

Microinspector-

The compound scope you have, by its very nature, has very limited depth of field, and sections need to be EXCEEDINGLY thin. A carrot peeler is not even close.

But that's half the fun of this hobby, learning proper microtechnique.

Re: Adapting Canon EOS to BH2 Trinocular.

I don't know much about this, but I do know a little. The Photomicro L adapter mounts onto the BH2 trinocular port, and then requires an NFK photo projection lens to be put into it. Finally, the camera can be attached to the L adapter. Unless you're shooting with an Oly camera, you'll need to adapt ...

Re: Adding Simple Darkfield to a Nikon Labophot Condenser

wmodavis- FYI - The MXA20495 will not fit into the BH2-CD condenser because the condenser bore is just a little too small. To fit in a 1" PVC (I suggest SDR-21) you can omit the MXA20495 and just wrap electrical tape to make the whole thing fit snugly, but it takes several wraps and then it tends t...

Re: Adding Simple Darkfield to a Nikon Labophot Condenser

That's a valid concern with the pipe thickness. There does exist a thin wall PVC, same outer diameter, but only about half the wall thickness. I listed schedule 40 since it's widely available, whereas the thin wall can be hard to find.
