Paramecium B.

This was the other Paramecium type that I hoped I had identified correctly.. :) It looks really close to other shots ive googled, so I'm optimistic :P although pls feel free to supply alternative IDs if applicable Taken using the Gradient universal filter - I think it was with 40x leitz, NPL fluotar...

Re: Paramecium? {also, Phase contrast?} video youtube

Ah yeah, I can get it so the rings are pretty concentric, but they are both different thickness, so that some of the 'bright' ring is visibly uncovered by the dark ring, around the edge, despite being aligned. I guess this is why the effect isn't as drastic or highly contrasted as some of the proper...

Re: Paramecium? {also, Phase contrast?} video youtube

cool. the tip about embedding worked - thank you! Also, sorry Zzffnn just spotted your reply - many thanks for the input, much appreciated :) I added the specific parts involved, in case it rang any bells with someone - not an ideal match but it seems to 'do something' using bits I already had to ha...

Re: Paramecium? {also, Phase contrast?} video youtube

BTW probably not useful info, but just to clarify the phase contrast setup - 3 unmatched parts, the BHTU of course - and a zeiss 25x planapo slim silver with dark green band [my keyboard is broken, so some numbers are an issue lol] it has fortysix - zero six - forty one - nine nine zero one, as ID. ...

Re: Paramecium? {also, Phase contrast?} video youtube

Hi Aenima, To make the embed work you only include the last part of the URL: [ youtube ]zUzfRAezL8Q[ /youtube ] But it turns out it can be nice to include a link anyway just in case that doesn't work for some browsers. I will have to let someone else critique the phase contrast, but the larger cili...

Paramecium? {also, Phase contrast?} video youtube

zUzfRAezL8Q Hi guys - I have two questions about this vid - 1st is it Paramecium? ive been looking for paramecium for ages, and wasn't finding them in my moss and rain water, however I discovered a local park with a pond and had some good water samples from there - finally seeing some of the specie...

Re: A flatworm?

Really nice shots. Is that DIC? thank u fibreoptix - i do wish it was DIC, but unfortunately no - it's the gradient universal filter mentioned elsewhere on the forum ( i think searching "GUF" will bring it up) :) It does seem to resemble the DIC effect in some ways, but i'm not always getting the s...

Taking a look at the gradient universal filter might be a good move towards getting a similar effect photographically - at least it is an easy and cheap solution. :)

Thanks guys. Hobbyst46 - they are all shot using the GUF (or UGF ) giving the oblique appearance - but also as i keep a piece of polar sheet inserted in the head, i can just add a second polar filter over the lamp for polarized effect, which is what i did here. The main issue is my GUF filter has se...

Re: Images and comments

The advantage of using a condenser with a higher degree of colour correction is mostly seen off axis. If your goal is to capture the largest field as is possible, then the chromatism inherent with abbe condensers will cause background chromatism and some resolution loss, increasing with distance fr...

That's a big help, Bruce, thank you. :) I had hit a wall with Google, using vague descriptions - and the lack of eyespots was a confusing obstacle. flickering problems, how do you deal with it?

Hi, Not found much online about this issue, so i wanted to ask you guys. What is the deal with the horrible flickering that seems to come from the light sources, especially when using live view or recording video? Really hard to get good footage because of it. :/ think it might be related to the fra...
