Granite thin section

Messing around with my new 3.2 objective a little bit Still taking pictures through my eyepiece, looks much better in person. This thin section is actually very thick, it was one of the first ones I made in school and is absolutely not made well enough for research but thin sections always seem to b...

Re: 3.2x Objective wont focus

MichaelG., Looks like it's a mystery solved! I guess I just need to consult you guys before I start buying things. (at least I didn't pay too much for this I guess) With so many different types of objectives it's easy for a beginner to make mistakes or get something that isn't exactly what they thou...

Re: 3.2x Objective wont focus

Sorry for the delay in responding, I had a 24 hour shift at work. My objective has at least two lenses, (the rear one may be a filter for polarization?) Assuming the objective is a 37mm parfocal lense I would expect it to focus approximately 37mm from the turret, 8mm shorter than my other objectives...

Re: 3.2x Objective wont focus

MichaelG., I had just assumed the plezy would be necessary because of the age/style of the objective being the same as my 100x. MicroBob, I must have misinterpreted what you had said, I also thought that it would have meant that I would have needed the 3.2x closer instead of further away. Is it poss...

Re: 3.2x Objective wont focus

4cm, maybe even 5, it is a very very long way from being equal with the rest.

I can try and get measurements when i get home.

I just can't think of what it could be let alone how to fix it(aside from getting a new objective) but I would certainly prefer for that to be a last resort.

Re: 3.2x Objective wont focus

My 100x is 37mm but has a plezy to bring it to 45mm like the other objectives

The 3.2x will focus without the plezy about 40mm higher than the other objectives

Re: 3.2x Objective wont focus

The last two types can be used together: - on a 160mm tube with 10mm eypiece pickup point eyepieces or: -on a 170mm tube with 18mm eypiece pickup point eyepieces. Can you leave the plezy away under your 3,2;1 objective? Bob I am pretty sure the two objectives I have with the double knurl are 37mm w...

3.2x Objective wont focus

Hi guys, I got a 170/- p 3.2x/0.12 objective for my SM-LUX-POL and I cannot get it to focus how I expected it to. I found this thread: http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?t=7382 when looking for a solution so I tried to remove the intermediate polarizer in the head which allo...

Hey guys, Went to a lake today and got some algae to look for diatoms, I think I've found one but wanted to see if you guys knew for sure! Re: Help with condenser...

luxicon,

Is gumming up of the oil condensers fairly common?

Is this a procedure that would be worthwhile being familiar with if I can on working with an oil condenser?

Thanks for the info either way!

Hey 75RR,

I think that would probably fit
I would prefer the 553082 (nicer looking and had beveled interior edges to avoid bumping objectives) but I am interested depending on asking price, feel free to PM if you would prefer to talk there.

Thanks!

They are all threaded but the pins on the leitz holder I was looking at had one threaded and two unthreaded The measurements are approximate, I only have a protrac...

Re: WTB: Leitz mechanical stage for polarizing stage #40, #42 Part Number 553082

wabutter, my SM-LUX-POL does already have a circular stage so I would prefer to keep it and get the leitz attachable stage but if I were able to get a whole stage with mechanical XY from a different microscope for considerably less I would consider it. You are absolutely right about making sure it's...

microb,

I have a Leitz SM-LUX-POL, my stage has two bolts in the rear but I would have to pull it off to get a decent picture or to measure and see if it would fit with that one.

I'll have to check!

Edit:
The mounting holes on mine are about 48mm center to center

Re: Microscope comparison SM-LUX-POL or American Optical (110?)

If I could test anything I could have offered something that would seem a lot more reasonable to the seller but unfortunately I had to make the assumption that everything was in equal condition ( pretty broken, very dirty).

It's alright though, I'm in no rush and I'm sure something else will pop up.

Re: Microscope comparison SM-LUX-POL or American Optical (110?)

I'm on the fence. I'm sure I've already insulted the seller with my last offer but it just has to make good financial sense to me or there's no point. It at a minimum requires $150 in parts, plus time and effort to clean and service it. I am unsure of the optics in it which could be a big mistake if...

Re: Microscope comparison SM-LUX-POL or American Optical (110?)

It happens I suppose, I knew the risks involved.

Luckily the seller has been no issue and has already offered a refund.
It's a shame though, I'd much rather just get it working but at the price I paid I can't justify fixing it.
