Re: LED white balance and blue/green artifacts
I could not find any coin pictures in that ebay listing. Perhaps ebay's system redirected a link to another, "closest" still active item? The fringing of the OP's high contrast specimen could very well be lateral chromatic aberration inherent in the CMO design, from looking through the sides of the ...

Re: Direct projection Wild M7A using phototube 404891 color correction?
My earlier image largely shows the chromatic aberration of the M7A objective at maximum magnification. I found a couple more from when I was considering direct projection onto a larger image sensor. imaged1.jpg imaged2.jpg These are from a wide open Wild M7S, with the same objective but looking thro...

Re: Wild M7A questions: interpupillary distance, how to clean phototube lens, change occulars
Thank you for your reply. I am sorry my posts the last few months have not been as clear as they perhaps should be from lack of sleep. (I have someone working on that.) I may be trying to insert one too many optical units between the objective and eyepieces. By I doing so, I risk lengthening the inf...

Re: Wild M7A questions: interpupillary distance, how to clean phototube lens, change occulars
Note that thr normal heads will cover 26.5mm fn eyepieces but low profile and ergo heads will not. Would you know if the vignetting is from before the projection of the infinity optical paths or after? I ask because I have extended the i.o. path on a microscope, so that inserting the 30° ergo wedge...

Re: Wild M7A questions: interpupillary distance, how to clean phototube lens, change occulars
A pair of generic 10X/22 eyepieces I tried had too limited of a diopter adjustment to reach Wild's unusually deep intermediate image. On the other hand a pair of Zeiss W-PL 10X/23 oculars (and I would guess the Asian copies of them) are just parfocal when contracted to their limits. I refuse to shor...

Re: Small portable bright LED light source: What is not to love?
... It isn't advisable to run either type of filament illumination at voltages much less than about 85% and if running a 15 or 20 watt bulb in any microscope I have ever used and that is a lot.... Thank you for that helpful information. 85% of nominal voltage would be roughly 60% intensity. The sta...

Re: Olympus SZ40 stereo
The IKEA Nävlinge lamp emits more lumens but over a much greater area. It did not seem much brighter than the Jansjö, but I probably should double check. The Nävlinge's considerably bigger head and short flex section convinced me to buy more Jansjö's when IKEA was closing them out. You can buy simil...

Re: A question about photography and cameras
If you lack room for a computer/HDMI monitor, most mirrorless cameras allow you to frame and focus at the microscope, using their tilting LCD view screens and focus peaking. APS-C, Micro Four Thirds and Nikon 1 system cameras can all work really well for direction projection on to the sensor – which...

Re: Question about trying to get a price from Nikon …it’s like pulling teeth!
The new scientific equipment market is a bit special and, from what I have experienced, not structured for buyers whose first criteria is price.
You might investigate Meiji Techno who let their dealers publish prices.

I like ISO 200 the best as well. At least it used to be that Olympus ISO 100 was just ISO 200 overexposed a stop and then halved.

Thank you both for that information. It is good to know more alternatives as it is often quicker and easier to adopt a camera for the microscope than adapt the microscope to the camera.

The T7 has been around since practically the Little Ice Age. Is there an earliest version you would recommend for photomicroscopy? The T7 is from 2018, not too insanely old. I have only tried a few models. The T6 is perfectly good too, the T3 as I recall had some annoying issues with not properly p...

Re: DSLR vs dedicated microscope camera ?
To echo other posts her it depends on your system and your goals. It's hard to beat a used dslr for the money (ie canon rebel t7 for around 300 usd), though a mirrorless camera is more ideal for microscopy in some ways and often easier to adapt on too. The T7 has been around since practically the L...

Re: How to disable auto brightness adjustments- Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II
I could believe Manual mode (M) will work, but as the microscope sets the aperture, I suggested shutter preferred (S) mode. S mode only controls what the camera can, and frees up the other, programmable dial for something else, such as "ASA" or color temperature. But whatever works for you! (ADDENDU...
