Re: Also Needing Microscope Purchase Advice

Wouldn't that not even really be an upgrade though? How much better would that things images be?

Re: Also Needing Microscope Purchase Advice

Yes dark field filters instead of phase contrast will be $20 vs a few hundred dollars. The amscopes, omax etc do not have consistent quality and are not honestly advertised with their capabilities. Used professional brands like olympus will cost $3000 minimum unless you can find a really good deal. ...

Re: Also Needing Microscope Purchase Advice

You just need something that has a filter holder for darkfield its not complicated. A set of plastic $20 filters is all you need.

Re: Sony APS-C on Swift Trinocular

I have a swift 380T and a lumix g85 camera. There are a lot of camera adapter options out there and they are mostly chinese garbage. Cheap chinese microscopes = good but cheap chinses adapters = bad to medium quality images. Some of the adapters are ridiculously expensive too. LMscopes sell their ow...

Top Tier vs Mid Range DSLR Cameras

I've been looking up DSLR cameras to buy for making videos and found this website with a list of what they think the best cameras for microscopy are: https://www.lmscope.com/en/Camera_Ranking_en.html https://www.lmscope.com/en/camera_for_microscopy_recommendation_en.html It lists a $4,000 sony a9 ca...

hm the specimen pictures in that thread don't seem very good. Probably a camera issue rather than the microscope.

Re: Want to buy new compound microscope

Ya I've been reading more on the difference between the chinese knock offs and the good brands and it seems like I should either get the good brand or just stick with my cheap $200 microscope. So I am thinking I will get the olympus CX33 for $2700 but I wonder how good the website selling it is. htt...

Re: Want to buy new compound microscope

I don't think I'm going to go the used route because I don't want to risk getting something bad but I couldn't really find much anyways on ebay and such. @dtsh I am going to be taking videos so it has to be trinocular. If I go nuts and get something expensive I might go with a Olympus CX33 $2700 but...

Want to buy new compound microscope

I want to get a better microscope. I have a cheap $220 swift microscope and now I want to upgrade to something in the 1k range or so with plan/infinity objectives, phase contrast etc. I want to use it for taking videos of protozoa and such so it needs to be trinocular so I can use a dslr camera. Mos...

Just get something else because the swift models are more expensive now anyway. When I bought mine it was a good deal but now since they cost more you might as well get a more well known brand.

Re: Anyone with a Swift SW350T ?

I have the 380t and it has a filter holder for those little plastic dark field filters. You can't go by the seller comments because they don't know what they are talking about. The 380t had similar comments saying darkfield wasn't possible even though it has the filter holder option.

You can also use obs to capture a portion of the computer screen. So if you bring up your camera footage on the computer you can broadcast that window.

Re: Video streaming with a strereo microscope

You need a capture card. I don't have one so I can't recommend anything specific but I plan to stream microscope content in the future so I've looked into it. I don't know if it will work with your specific camera but if it has a usb port like how a dslr camera does for transferring pictures and vid...

A collection of most of the footage I have taken so far. The next step is to make another but with higher quality footage. These images are ok but I had issues with the adapter I have been using and am working on a better setup.

Re: Dileptid Hunting and Eating

Dileptids readily form cysts, when environmental conditions won't support vegetative growth. If you pick healthy cells out with a micropipette and place them in a small quantity of water with no food, you can sometimes induce them to encyst. A depression slide works well, or a small petri dish. At ...

Re: Dileptid Hunting and Eating

Nice, very nice ! Observing and filming a dileptid is high on my list. Of the many hundreds of samples I have examined I have yet to see one. I found a bunch of them living in my jar of pond water and figured I'd have plenty more to observe later but now I haven't been able to find any and I'm thin...

Re: Camera taking bad bright field images

But now there is a problem with blue dots/pixels appearing in both brightfield and darkfield images. Could be...
