Re: Flagellated Bacteria
The footage is certainly top notch. Never seen anything like that. Is there any chance that I can find some flagellated bacteria too? I really want to observe it myself. They seem to abound in oxygen depleted waters but are quite common in general. Many pathogenic bacteria sport flagella but in som...

Welcome Element 56.
Being skilled in machining will be a HUGE help when it comes to microscopes. Making filter holders, adapters and custom parts would be much easier.
Any particular interest toward Barium?

Re: MANY Objective lenses available for sale - Barn Find
75RR you will have to trust me. I did try and put them in the main body of the forum post, but there was too much info there. Plus I really don't have the time or expertise for anything sinister. It's a long list of microscope lenses and their properties. But is the best way to get you this informa...

Re: human hair bulb - Oblique polarized + COL illumination
Hi Daroush, interesting subject and good contrast technique! The COL looks like DIC here. COL is a bit fiddly to setup in my experience. Perhaps you could reduce the vignetting by image editing. Bob Thanks Bob, I just got bored (being more than 25 days at home) and tried my eyebrow hair under the m...

Nothing spectacular, but hey, it was new to me:
40x Plan Achro 0.65 / Condenser aperture fully open / COL ring size: 19mm / Cross polarization + Cellophane as compensation plat
Any ideas to make it better?

Re: Advice on a dark field camera
One thing to watch out for, is the stability of the system. DSLRs are heavy and there is no real need for the mirror on a microscope. It's kind of a design holdover from the SLR. Buying new; there are few reasons not to investigate a mirrorless camera. On second though I was going to come back and ...

Hi,
With 1000 USD budget, I would recommend a DSLR camera. You'll have full control over exposure settings and much higher dynamic range. Something like Canon EOS 750D/800D.

Daruosh where can i find information on the webb for trinocular etc. for Novel N-200M? Novel makes 3 types of (160mm tube length) trinocular heads. If you post a picture of the head dovetail, we can determine the correct part. I ordered mine for Novel N-180M from China (through a 3rd party dealer)....

Re: Repository of exotic diatoms?
They are better for the diatomist than electric centrifuges for the tiny Eppendorf tubes because the glass tubes hold 15ml of fluid. For some diatom cleaning methods it is necessary to remove a chemical quickly and there is no time to just let the diatoms settle by themselves. Hi Bob, My bench top ...

Re: Tiny field mcroscope specifically for diatom sampling
I'm thinking about a similar project and cobbled a 10X el cheapo objective with an LED and an eyepiece. It turned out the mechanical fit and finish is important and my 3D prints modeling (at least in my case) is not precise enough, everything needs to be on a very same axis and same horizontal level...
