Re: BestScope BS2081 with Olympus MFT Camera
Yes I would very much like to know how the BS 3090 is performing as I have been considering a used Olympus szx16 vs a new BS3090. Your reviews tend to be quite detailed and informative. DHL gobbled it up. It's there and on it's way but they've been slow to process it through customs ( 3 weeks). Cus...

Re: Good Book for Microbe Identification?
It's an older photo as I re-arranged the books on a regular basis. One was a book on microscopy and another was Aquatic beetles. I hope to finally begin spending quality time in my lab if I retire next year. Then I can participate more in the forums and maybe even finally make that trip to visit Apo...

Re: Stereo microscope photo port projection lens not parfocal with eyepieces
Nikon SMZ-U has a resolution of 270 lp/mm with the 1x E plan 420 LP with the 1.5X objective and 540 lp with the 2x objective. These numbers are at max 7.5x NA respectively 0.1, 0.14 and 0.18. The newer stereoscopes have more than double that resolution with the Leica SM205C for example having a reso...

So I have not posted for a while. I have many interests besides micrsocopy. But I tend to focus more on microscopy as the winter comes on. So I log on my favorite micrsocopy forum only to see this sad posting!! Why? Why? why?
Just curious given the amount of energy you have devoted over the years.

Or you can leave the tube and add a 38 mm t-mount adapter. At least that is what I have done with mine. Although close, it is not parfocal when direct mounting to my Canon t3I. I have not really tried to make it parfocal as when taking pics I tend to tether the camera to a laptop and focus that imag...

The 685 shutter assembly added no additional magnification by itself. There were 3 camera backs having varying degrees of magnification that were used in combination with cameras.

Yes I do. It is the darker color to match the Reichert 580. They changed the color when they adopted the Reichert name on the line. It has a slight defects on the mirror. It is model 685 however I removed the trip cable as it is unnecessary with modern cameras. Send me your e-mail and I will send yo...

I took a look and I actually have a few of the books in hardback form. I have Foissner's paperback vol 3 Monograph.I also have Sleigh's book Protozoa and other Protists.. I have been so involved in entomology as of late, I totally forgot exactly what I had in my microbiology library . Hausmann's Pro...

Thanks Bruce. I will add these books to my collection. I currently use the illustrated guide to Protozoa Vol 1 & 2 by John J. K. Lee, Gordon F. Leedale, et al. | Jan 1, 2000. I also have Patterson's book Another book, albeit outdated, is Ward and Whipples Freshwater Biology 2nd edition. These tend t...

Hay infusions are great! If you can access some hay just put it in a jar and wait. Soon you will have a menagerie, assuming he hay was not treated in any way.

Re: Finally found a working 47.5 B&L Apo what a fine lens
No When I said "like yourself" I was referring only to having a set of the apos. I saw you were referring to a Dynoptic rather than a Dynazoom. I should have been more clear. The Dynazoom/Dynooptic scopes could have various bodies and objecive options. I have a Dynopotic with the flatfield objective...

Re: Barlow 2.0x vs higher power eyepieces, implications?
I agree- Take the Barlow objective. As mentioned the objective gives twice the resolution while increasing magnification. The eyepiece only increases magnification. Most manufacturers if providing maximum na numbers generally do so with the 2x objective mounted.

I have a B&L APO 61x/1.4 immersion objective. It is dated Oct 13th 1925. I have not actually tried it as of yet. I seem to recall acquiring it from Apochronaut himself! Although not absolutely sure. He may recall better. I have 2 extra Apo 47.5 x one with a frozen collar but both optics are excellen...

Guys, Not to interject into your in depth conversation but, if you are serious about using the SZ7 for photography, and even perhaps image stacking, I would suggest you obtain the research stand as pictured below. The focus mechanism is designed a "fine" focus and trust me compared to the other stan...

I must complement Plasmid. At least he is taking a reasonable number of shots. Most likely he just needs to refine his technique a bit.

Re: Stacked pictures come out Cartoonish
Stacking only improves the image if the total depth of your subject can be divided into "slices" or multiple images. Each "layer" sharply focused on a given plane, then combined to make one sharper image of a much deeper depth than you can achieve with a single image. You must know what each turn of...

Re: Leitz trinoc head 42mm 512/738 question
Leica, previously Leitz among others, issued a cease and desist, insisting the material was copyrighted. Which no doubt it was. However, by removing these old documents they hope to hasten the older scopes' demise and thus increase current sales. I made my opinion quite clear to them when they made ...
