Hi Wes, nice catch! Your photos show a nice contrast of the filopodia. There are currently 3-4 species of Diplophrys described, so there is a Diplophrys species whose lipid droplets are colorless - maybe you catched this one :-) I found the shape of the filopodia do change frequently... Good instructions how to dismantle, clean and re-lube the eye-piece mechanism at the bino is described here: https://www.mikroskopie-forum.de/index.php?topic=35730.0 I would say it is not that difficult, I did it also once without facing issues. Maybe to mention you need a bit sensivity and patience...

Thanks you Wes, Francisco, zzffnn and smollerthings. Photo 1 is made with DIC, 2 and 3 is BF with a bit oblique light. White balance in 2 and 3 is not properly set, so background looks grey. The coleps is glowing in the DIC polarized light quite strong, so I do not really like the DIC image...the DI...

In most cases it is not really the iris itself that sticks, so procedure outlined by Hobbyst46 will work. To be honest ... nothing more exciting than to touch and turn a well (re-) greased Zeiss Standard WL Fine focus knob (the nice looking metal knobs, not plastic).
