Re: Two diopter-adjustable eyepiece mounts on one head -- why?
All of those that I have seen are trinocular. Is this the case with yours? The one trinocular head I have only has one side adjustable, but of course, no guarantee that is the original configuration. The one with both sides adjustable is binocular. A Siedentopf bino tube design doesn't need this st...

Re: Two diopter-adjustable eyepiece mounts on one head -- why?
Just noticed the head with two adjustable eyepiece mounts also has the telan lens mounted 1-2 mm further out of the head (toward the objective) than the rest of the heads. The telan lens looks to be thoroughly cemented in place -- unlikely the original factory position could be changed without obvio...

Two diopter-adjustable eyepiece mounts on one head -- why?
One of my Reichert 410 heads has the eyepiece mounting tubes with diopter adjustment on both sides. (All the other ones have one side adjustable, the other fixed.) Is there any reason to do that (seems redundant) or chance it came from the factory that way? Or just a sign of some other hack before m...

Re: AO/Reichert One-Fifty vs. Reichert-Jung Series 150 differences and head compatibility
And as a cost-cutting measure they sold the microscopes unfinished and let the plasterers apply a finish themselves? The splatter on top of the carefully-machined knurling on the diopter adjustment is amusing, certainly doesn't give a good impression of quality.

Re: AO/Reichert One-Fifty vs. Reichert-Jung Series 150 differences and head compatibility
Agree, regarding the crude look of the finish, but heads on other complete 150s have a similar look. I wasn't planning to buy it at that price, especially without eyepieces, was just the first photos I had seen of the underside showing the long extension with telan lens like the older 150 heads, but...

I believe this is a Reichert-Jung 150 head, with decent photos of the underside:

Re: Please help identify some things I am frequently seeing in dirty backyard water
Regarding #3, I found the term "dyad" for this double-ball structure in the context of pollen but it didn't really help in finding similar example images. So far the examples I found were all aquatic plants. Since I see so many of them I assume they are coming from something nearby. If I wanted to t...

Re: Comparison of AmScope's Plan & Non-Plan Objectives
What you could add are photos with the achromats focussed on the edge of the field. For objects that are not flat some curvature of field is less important, but there should be a point where the image at the edge actually is sharp. This reminds me of something I have been wondering about for a whil...

Re: The Magnification Issue
If the specs at http://www.aibome.com/product/36_146.html as posted in your other thread are correct then you can estimate: According to Wikipedia a 1/2.5" sensor is 5.76 mm wide. Assume the objective and 10x eyepiece are normally working with a 20 mm diameter intermediate image. The 0.5x relay shou...

Re: Springtails viewed with two different optical systems
I like seeing these comparisons, very useful for someone who has not spent a lot of time looking through different microscopes. Note the colored areas adjacent to the highlights in the upper right portion of the image are the result of chromatic aberrations. There is quite strong astigmatism, with t...

Re: How to adjust Reichert 410 nosepiece detent angle?
The difference between the two heads is smaller than the CA offset I originally noticed, and I am still thinking that the position of that detent is the main issue, just trying to make sure I don't end up with two different misalignments cancelling to some degree but still leaving a degraded image. ...

Re: Curious if anyone recognizes the camera adapter tube on this Reichert 410
The parts replacing the splitter/eyepiece assembly look nice, did you machine them? I used to have a mini lathe but sold it two moves ago, obviously regretting that now that I have a microscope and camera I'd like to hook together. Optically, it looks like you have turned the binocular head into a m...

Re: Curious if anyone recognizes the camera adapter tube on this Reichert 410
Maybe I missed out. Have been looking for camera adapters but generally skeptical of anything that looks like it might have been designed for use with older video equipment since the required level of optical performance could be pretty low. (I have a big box of old video inspection stuff pulled out...

I messaged the seller asking if there were any lenses in the tube but it sold quickly, before I heard back. I guess, because of the small diameter at the top, it would be for video?

Re: How to adjust Reichert 410 nosepiece detent angle?
If by "alignment problem is taking place in the Z axis" you mean a tilt of a vertically-mounted component away from the vertical axis of the microscope then yes, I am still thinking that is the case. I had been using the term optical axis rather than Z or vertical to avoid confusion since the light ...

These wave-like ripple patterns seem to appear and disappear and move in a way that is hard to discern what the 3D structure would be. Are they real or some sort of optical/camera artifact? Is it generally ok to swap individual lenses between components like eyepieces or objectives?
So far, in the case of the Reichert 181 eyepieces for example, I have been careful to keep the lenses within each eyepiece together thinking is is possible they could have been binned/selected into well-matched pairs during manufacturing.

Re: How to adjust Reichert 410 nosepiece detent angle?
It just occurred to check another possible source of misalignment which is the mounting of the head housing to the base plate (the part of the head with the dovetail) where there is also quite a bit of slop due to oversize screw holes. Alignment there is affecting alignment of the beam splitter and ...

Pete, sorry, I probably should have been more specific, but I think maybe you didn't notice the additional text below the photo? The holes in the spring are indeed oversize, and the positioning of the spring within that slop is the "adjustment" I was referring to.

How to adjust Reichert 410 nosepiece detent angle?
I received a calibration slide/stage micrometer today and noticed an asymmetry in the chromatic aberrations that is common to all objectives. I believe the problem is that I didn't get the detent spring, which I removed when I disassembled and cleaned everything, back in the correct place. Here is a...

Please tell how the metal rods are bound to the rails? Is this a superglue or something else? I have a similar stage disassembled right now and there are actually no...

Yup, that's the sort of thing I had in mind. Ascomycetes (fungi in division Ascomycota). Google image search for keyword "conidia" which I just learned about from the Wikipedia pages linked in my previous post turned up this: https://mycokeys.pensoft.net/article/25665/zoom/fig/14/ Also looks pretty close, and shows the type of near-90-degree tee branching I mentioned in the original post.

How do the images compare with what you see though the eyepieces? They do seem a little washed out. Also a holder for your phone will allow both sharper images (it will be steadier) and free your hands to make adjustments. The photos are not too far off but overall they definitely do not look as ni...
