Re: Wanted-junk 25mm objective
Wahoo, quickly send me details. Dale Oops, sorry, Apo, I thought that link was from Lopez, who has friends with parts with attractive prices! Honestly, I can't think of another objective I could use. My spread is 4-10-20-40-60X. I dont use oil, so a 100X is out. BTW, the 15X eyepieces work very well...

One Ugly Family Portrait
There must have been a dust bunny over the Ipad's lens, making this the worst photo I've ever taken, but do to a request, I publish this, with great embarrassment. I am moving, and the packing process in the den is a nightmare. To all the members who have had a hand in my getting this far I offer my...

This is more like what I had in mind: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-CFI-Plan-Apo-100X-1-4-Oil-Ph3-DM-infinity-0-17-WD0-13-Objective-MRD31905-/201583857336?hash=item2eef558eb8:g:Q~8AAOSwvg9Xb-W- 75, I am in the midst of packing for a move. Re: Wanted-junk 25mm objective
Grasshopper feels like his chain is being pulled when asked to explain to the master, but jumps at the chance to do so. Nikon infinity obj's are 25mm, and 23mm go straight through the turret hole. Sadly, I just used the scope to diagnose my cats cutaneus histiocytoma cyst. The vet will back me up, I...

Re: My new stereoscope
Sorry, can't help you there. My scope is binoc only, even though I have the hardware to
hang my Nikon on it. I have not tried diffusing my Ikea lights. Experience can be a humbling
thing, as much effort as I expended to get 120X, I use the 7 to 30X most often.

Now I have a pair of useless 23mm to resell.
Well capped in Seattle,
Thanks everyone

I need to plug one hole on my E600 turret, and I don't need any more objectives.
The plastic plugs are rarer than hens teeth. Considering a rubber test tube stopper.

I just added a dual fiberoptic, and it is truly great. The Ikea lamps sounded too good for the price, but now I have them all over the place. They are sometimes on sale for $8. My ring light just got in the way, but only because of the way it was attached to the scope. It works better on the dslr ca...

Wow, 335 posts, after a lot of pm's I still have a few questions. Are the HP and PD really available at grocery stores? my supplier will also have a 2X. Sure an expensive way to keep dust out!

Since I balk at using oil, there should not be any more obj's I could use to
fill those holes. Maybe a pair of junkers, but they would just be confusing.

If you think not I will pay whatever you want, surely less than the $9 I paid for these. I was really frantic toda...

Is this a reasonable deal? It's graduated in 50 micro-liters . Primary use is for transferring fluid in

I will have to see if there are any caves on the North side of the island. I really enjoyed those links, I understood a lot of it. Filter mesh is on its way. We will only have a rental car for a day or two, so my collection time will be quite limited, but I think I can get to a second beach easily. ...

Field test for diatoms
Can anyone suggest a method for quickly analyzing beach sand for diatoms? I will have a microscope
of as yet undetermined properties. I am working on a mini-centrifuge, based on a very small cordless drill.
I have no nets or filters of any kind. Grateful for any help.

Never saw anything like that before! Put it on the watch list. Now that I have some bonifide sand, (thanks Fan) I can evaluate all the possibility's. From the images you have posted, it looks like darkfield would be the bestlighting, and quite achievable on a small single power scope. For once or tw...

Good thread Fan, we are both looking for the same scope, right? Scanning for diatoms
in the field. If it works in a kayak it should work in my checked luggage. I have no parts
to complete a project scope. I need to use different search words to get better results, like
yours.

Vintage is what I've been searching for, also, but I need something light enough to
fly in checked luggage. These fine old instruments weigh a ton. My options are to carry
a 25lb scope, or a few lbs of sand!

Well, from 2018 on we are going in April and October, and I will start diving for sand. My scope man is conjuring up some portable scope options. My only use for one would be scanning samples right at the beach. My first guess is something like this: monocular, 10X EP, 40X OBJ, no understage parts, ...

That is what Charles reported. I scooped right from the surface as the surf flowed
out, which I guess is wrong. Next year, at Kauai, I'll be better informed, and prepared.
Do you agree that I should stay well above the surf line and dig down?
