I have not seen reference to the built-in filters on the BHS. Guess I need to up my reading skill.

Are those built-in filters in the base or elsewhere?

Re: AO20 First impression!

McConkey - I have been posing my questions but they are likely limited by where I am on the learning curve. A particularly interesting aspect of your story was that you seemed, to my untrained eye, to have started way down on that curve as well so I could sort of step right into it and did learn a l...

Re: Help with some nomenclature etc.

All of that input is helpful in sorting out the myriad of descriptions out there. Particularly 75RR's comment on the 'student'. My main goal in asking was to try to understand if there are REAL and significant differentiation by those names. And I now realize that I left out the the metallurgical va...

Re: Question on Olympus BH-2

77RR - That is what I'm wondering about. I'm guessing (since I have never really read that) that it mainly has to do with the illumination system rather than above the base. I do not know if the 'standard base' models have the field iris as does the 'wide base ' models. I am leaning toward the wide ...

Help with some nomenclature etc.

I seem to regularly come across terminology in the literature that maybe someone here can add some light, clarification, opinion etc to my growing understanding by helping me to differentiate them as to what they really mean. 1. research microscope 2. clinical microscope 3. student microscope 4. bio...

Re: AO20 First impression!

It has been fascinating to read through the saga of advice leading up to this purchase and then your pictures and report of the results. I have learned a lot. This may be more fun than actually having a microscope of my own. But then haven't experienced that so may be proven wrong. Hope so. I'm stil...

Question on Olympus BH-2

I have been continuing my search for a scope and have a question about some BH-2s that I've seen and maybe I can get help 'off the top' of your knowledgeable heads. I really like the modularity/expandability of the BH-2. I have however noticed a difference in the base which likely is minor but also ...

A little uncomfortable with that though just because of my lack of familiarity and knowledge in this arena. Decided to ba...

Olympus CH2 questions

Does anyone here have experience with an Olympus CH2? Looking around and have a few questions on this one as a starter. 1. General impressions of the CH2 as a beginning scope. 2. Most I've seen are binocular. Can they be upgraded/converted to a trinocular? 3. Is this fairly modular and upgradeable w...

Was prompted to snoop in the catacombs in the basement caverns below and in an old camera case from bygone years I found two camera lense polerizers. Walla! Now all I need is a microscope and some years of practice.

Darn! I wrote a tome and it disappeared. Maybe I'll redo.

But I'll try a diagram if I can make it work.

Particularly I'm referring to Topic 10: What is the light emission spectrum?

LEDs are very monochromatic light so there is not much of the light spectrum present. Although the white LEDs must be broader spectrum content.

Re: Don't know if this fits cuz I'm NOT afraid to ask....

Have gone back and read some on LED lighting including ads from vendors. A couple things stuck out to me. Most talk is about cooler temperature, long life, low power etc. Nothing about its characteristics that might aid or distract from quality of viewing in microscopy. So it begs of sales puffery. ...

Good stuff on the LED issue or non issue as the case may be. One of my reasons to question is because ...

Re DIY polarizing filters

In another thread it was suggested to use a camera screw on polarizing filter such as the HOYA that was shown. My question (s): I believe those type filters contain two polarized filters in a rotatable frame and thus to use on a microscope must be separated. Is that true? If so has anyone had experi...

Likely this is a simple one to answer so here goes from a relative newcomer to this sport... Are they compatible? An...
