Re: objective nomenclature
The concept of plan , really is a variable one and entirely dependent on the f.o.v. NPl , probably implies planarity with a normal f.o.v., which is probably somewhere around 18mm. To achieve a wider field, with wider planarity, a whole different set of optics would be necessary. There is something e...

I suppose where they are just designated as NPlan that might be a question . In this case the catalogue explicitly says Neo Plan.

Looks like I will remain confused for a while longer ... I was hoping the inner truth had been revealed :( MichaelG. . Edit: Perhaps the best evidence might come from a price list !! I don't have a price list handy but I have seen one for the group of objectives listed for the AO/Reichert series 40...

Re: Using a ZWo ASI385MC with my American Optical 150
There aren't any off the shelf quick solutions that were made for that microscope. All photography was done through a trinocular photo tube. You will need to diy a clamping mechanism to the eyepiece tube and then arrange adapters to afix the camera. Since the camera is used for astro photo purposes,...

Re: objective nomenclature
There are numerous designations leading up to the plan designation and the plan designation is entirely dependent on which eyepiece the manufacturer has decided to rate the objective as plan with. NPl has also been linked with the term Neoplan, which is usually associated with a narrower field of vi...

Re: Leica Integrated Modulation Contrast (Variant of Hoffman)
This, Hoffman, the variable slit interference condenser of PZO, the Goerz condenser and the original Zernicke/Zeiss phase system all seem to be variations on a theme. That of passing the original light source through a slit, rather than than through a circular or concentric aperture. I suppose, one ...

Re: Old Scope Who is the Maker?
Small Japanese makers up until into the 80's were making stencil brands or house brands for scientific supply houses and customizing the colour and sometimes certain convertible components to the customer's budget and desires. Later in that period Korea got involved as the heir apparent cheaper supp...

Re: Is it possible to observe cell wall synthesis under microscope
I would think it would be possible to a degree but you would be limited by the available high resolution capability of your system plus whether you could highlight certain structures without killing the subject. I am assuming you want to magnify the cell wall as much as is possible in order to view ...

Re: Dark field illumination: Questions and answers
There are usually subtle changes in the objectives made between about 1910 and 1960, even though the actual optical designs varied little. Mostly, the advent of anti-reflection coatings and very minor changes to internal design of the barrel reduced flare a little and increased contrast. If I had a ...

Re: Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
I have to guess here but it is based on a bit of fiddling with quite a few of these. The brass seat on the condensers I have partially separated ,are probably shims. They don't seem to come out easily and may be secured in place during the body assembly. I can see threads that look like the nose of ...

Re: Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
Pictures; good. The bottom lens drops out after you remove a retaining ring yes but the parts manual shows the entire lens section built as a unit with one part # 1970-860. They don't even list a part # for the bottom lens and retainer but they show 9 more part #'s for the rest of the entire condens...

Re: Resolution comparison between BF, Oil DF and PhC
If you look up inside and see a small convex mirror, it is cardioid. It most likely is cardioid, since quality manufactuers were striving for the best possble resolution for DF, coupled to freedom from ca and if they only made one type, cardioid would likely be the choice. Some companies, Bausch & L...

1) Could you post a picture of the condenser? It does sound like someone has removed the iris and installed a blue filter. Very odd because the # 1970 condenser has a sealed optical section. Does it have any other distinguishing features? The 410 does not have an abbe condenser. It is an abbe aspher...

Re: Need advice buying a Reichert Microstar IV
Ebay has a pretty reasonable policy regarding returns. People just neglect to utilize ebay's buyer protection. If the listing said fully functional or works as intended or tested and working or some such thing then it should be fully functional. If the listing says as is, or untested or has some wor...

Re: X40,x60,x100 objective différence in use
The role of the eyepiece was in the next blog article: http://bettermicroscopy.blogspot.com/2019/11/ That's why most of the older apochromat systems used a 15X eyepiece as a default, rather than a 10X. It is also why they used 2mm objectives rather than 1.8mm objectives. A 2mm objective gives appro...

Re: X40,x60,x100 objective différence in use
One has always to factor in what they are actually doing with the sample. The original question was whether one should go for the highest or lowest magnification in the same brand and quality level , if the N.A. is the same. If the purpose of the observation is to make a photo, the answer is a littl...

A Microstar or Diastar might be hard to find in Sweden. I think Reichert was very active there though, so you might consider one of the Reichert instruments that they probably sold there, which were of Austrian production. The one I would target would be a Diavar 2. It is very similar to Diastar, us...

Re: (BH-2) Any solutions for widefield (26.5mm) photography?
I'm not sure if you could adapt the principle to a fixed tube system. It might need some complicated optics and conversions. B & L did that in the Balplan, where they had a series of modified fixed tube objectives converted to infinity in a telescope lens system and then converted back to convergent...

Re: Dark field illumination: Questions and answers
I'm not exactly sure of the era of the objectives, probably from about the first W.W. to the early 50's but the design is a split shroud, with a lens section below a knurled ring and a blank section with rear baffle only above it. You unthread the baffle section and replace it with the iris as an ad...

That's a tricky one. Very good image of it. I remember doing these a few years back testing objectives and with a lot of 1.25 N.A. it was borderline whether they would reveal the striae in BF.

With infinity optics you can use a teaching bridge as a photo tube and by pass the telan lens. With an adaptor for the dovetail on the bridge( same as the head) that has a thread on the other side to fit the filter thread of a prime lens , you can use a prime lens set at infinity, mounted vertically...
