Re: How to remove Reichert microtome chuck?

Thank you John B and Roldorf. Some pictures of the Reichert-Jung cassette chuck assembly process - or, working backwards, disassembly process. Taken to aid my failing memory, in the hope that I remember I took them... and where they are! And in the hope they may be of benefit to others with similar ...

Re: How to remove Reichert microtome chuck?

A quick update. Success :D It turns out the trick with this chuck is not to lock the block holder and unscrew it, but to loosen the clamp lever completely, then pull the lever and its camshaft radially, right out of the chuck, at which point the block holder and its attached spherical mount can be p...

Re: How to remove Reichert microtome chuck?

Hello Roldorf and John B Firstly, thank you Roldorf for the link. At least I now know what I am aiming at, and of course once seen it makes perfect sense! Secondly, thank you John B for the explanation of how to get there. As soon as I read these two posts I ran out to the "shop/lab" in my pyjamas t...

Re: How to remove Reichert microtome chuck?

Hi Hobbyst46 Thank you for the suggestion. So far I have been using only manual force - my recently increasingly arthritic (or maybe carpal tunnel?) blighted wrists! Your idea coincides with thoughts I have been having - for the future - if necessary - and no-one comes up with a slicker approach bas...

Re: How to remove Reichert microtome chuck?

Thank you Peter for the very good suggestions. It hadn't occurred to me that the set screw may only be a locking screw. Unfortunately, when removed, it didn't look like there was another screw underneath. In fact the screw I removed has the end turned down to a smooth diameter, and has the end radiu...

How to remove Reichert microtome chuck?

I need to remove the chuck from a Reichert microtome to allow removal of the cover. As can be seen in the pic below there is a set screw near the end of the ram, which I assumed might be part of the retaining system for the chuck. But even with the set screw loosened I have been unable to move the c...

AO 820 Microtome Retract Question

Hello all
Can anyone tell me if the AO 820 microtome has, or ever had, a retract funtion: i.e. backing the sample away from the blade on the return stroke?

Re: Garden Pendulous Sedge sectioned

Hi Tom, I use a Shandon 0325 retracting rotary microtome with 'Feather' disposable blades, grade S35. I routinely section at 10µ for a 'quick look' at tissue. This after a dip ... Ahh! Now I understand. 10µ for a 'quick look' eh! Sure, why not  Lovely equipment and lovely work John. I obvious...

Re: Garden Pendulous Sedge sectioned

Hi John
Definitely another winner. Excellent material. You mentioned in your initial post the the sections shown were either 5 or 10 microns. Pretty thin for plant sections - what type of microtome are you using?
