Re: Zeiss Model 14 project
Now you need a nice Zeiss microscope to go with those two objectives.Good luck on the auction! The 40X Neofluar will give you excellent resolution...almost as good as the PlanApos. Thank you Charles I won't be happy with less than Neofluar objectives on whatever Zeiss I end up with. :-) I have no c...

Re: Zeiss Model 14 project
It was - one would have been gone an earlier if I knew what I was doing. I decided to buy the second one just to have it to look at/compare - well and decide if I will ever need it myself in the future. If not, it seems that I should be able to sell it without too much loss. Thanks to you and 75RR! ...

Re: Zeiss Model 14 project
I found some planapos on ebay that seem too cheap but seem like they have the right numbers to fit the zeiss model 14. I am afraid to buy them though, being a noob. :-) Will one of you veterans confirm that they are correct for the scope please? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Zeiss-Planapo-Microscope-Objec...

Thanks for the info and link to the manual 75RR.
The second set of oculars just seemed worth looking for? Wouldn't a 16x or 20x pair be useful?

Re: Zeiss Model 14 project
Thanks for your replies Charles and 75RR. I mistyped that 75RR - I meant to ask if the KPL and KPL-W were correct to look for a second set of occulars. But the occulars have a number designation also I guess- like KPL W 10/18? Like here? http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-2-ZEISS-KPL-W-10-X-18-MICROSCOP...

Thank you for that explanation Charles. Now I am looking for objectives for the model 14 in the auctiion. Will the plan objectives from this auction work? Doesn't the camera replace the eyepiece; therefore, you lose that magnification?

What books do you suggest for a total novice? (In my case to everything; I have no schooling in microscopy, biology or any other science.) I see we need acid and basic dyes. I assume we novices need a few stains to start with?
What would you suggest for beginners? I really want a gallon of this stuff but i bet it isn't on the starter list!

Nice microscope Charles. I think 75RR said the model 18 was the most versatile? Yes, the nose and the eye but I need to stop buying everything I see that I like. YA, leave something for the rest of us will you! :-) wow you tear them completely down for cleaning? That is amazing. Just dive in einman ...

It seemed the Zeiss deserved its own thread. Thank you for identifying the Zeiss. Where did you find the serial number reference Charles? (If it isn't a trade secret!) Thanks for the replies 75RR & JimT.
I missed the fact that the camera linked was used/who knows what.
I looked into cost of a new camera including Canon and can see that I won't be pursuing imaging for awhile!

I will go Monday to do the tests you and lorez suggest. (Assuming no one stops me. )
