Re: Wanted: 100x infinity objective

Hello fellas -hope you don’t mind me jumping in to the convo- hey apochronaut (such a cool handle)-do you know of any Chinese 1000x infinity water immersion objectives with an iris? Also what’s the tube length of chines objectives ? I’ve got one infinity scope-Leica DM750-does it matter that much to...

Re: Olympus phase contrast objectives

My two cents Harold-phase contrast shouldn’t be judged in imaging critters that can be easily seen in bright field-it often makes the image worse as TonyT’s photos show-bright field will always do a better job-sometimes phase can give a nice enhancement of say inner structures of ciliates and nemato...

Re: I was surprised that my 90x oil is kind of usable without oil

Hey smollerthings I found this also with certain 90-100x objectives -I know it’s not the best image but just a casual look I can find it enough visual information to keep wanting to explore the slide without the hassle of oil-did you try any digital sharpening in post?

Re: Very positive Diavert eBay purchase

Once in a while you get a nice surprise-I’ll be able to use the Petri holder on the Labovert also which are almost impossible to find without a Labovert attached-I’m excited I can get my phase turret aligned again-been getting wonky for ages. Probably sell the Olympus photo eyepiece as I seem to be ...

Very positive Diavert eBay purchase

Hi folks-really lucked out with this lot-$600 in very good condition with dovetail mount and working Petri dish holder (what?)-but got a lot more than was on the listing-heaps of extra objectives and eyepieces (including a fat 30mm 10x for my cute little SM-M Pol that came with a 6x) ,long intercept...

Re: Newbie learns to take images, dtsh edition

dtsh-interesting post-never seen images from AO scopes-the achromats have a nice subtle contrast and colour to them-and a sort of “soft sharp” which is nice on the eyes-the image of the “orifice” is interesting-the subtle contrast sort of makes you look harder at all the detail-do you have any photo...

Re: Long tailed nematode

Yes dtsh the egg photo was from wiki!-I wasn’t trying to suggest they are related just that I have seen them before but didn’t realise they were eggs-I make high thermal compost (let it get to 65 degrees before turning to kill pathogens and seeds-it’s mostly very motile bacteria/fungal hyphae at wor...

Re: Long tailed nematode

dtsh you could be right-I’ve noticed these eggs in the compost brew-photo below-not a lot but I thought they may have been a fungal spore or even a diatom that has brown chlorophyll-I really need to read more about species rather than just look at them-dyslexia makes it hard to read for long though....

Long tailed nematode

Calling BramHuntingNematodes I was brewing compost tea and found this nematode with the longest tail I’ve ever seen-video link below-you’ve probably seen longer-it seemed to be the type with the boxy shaped mouth with “fangs”-excuse my very basic descriptions-do you know much about Polyphenism in ne...

Whirling dervish-what is it?

Found this in my frog pond today-seems to be a spirette type body with two flagella whipping about like a cowboys spinning lasso…I do like the weirdos…
Anyone know what it is?

Re: Microbe Behavior and Purpose

I imagine the old natural selection comes into it a lot as well-the way a lot of flagellates have that ambling “duck waddle” probably keeps them a moving target as well as bumping into food sources-has anyone seen the flagellate that from my observation seems to grab food and attach it to its back-p...

Re: Pocket RMS microscope with condenser, darkfield, schlieren and 3D printable

My two cents-I wonder if simplification is key to good modern field scopes-my CK-1 inverted only has course focus but if wheel is big enough it’s quite usable even at 400x-also I wonder about alternatives to X/Y stage like a floating stage you just gently push around-I think mechanics need a real ch...

Hello peeps-below is my new cute little Pol scope-same size as the SM-Mesical scope-came with objectives, condenser, and light source but no compensators (first red,1/4 wave etc) which fit into a slot in the back of the nose as indicated by the red arrow in the photo-I’ve seen some sellers on eBay wit...

Hello-I can concur with 75RR-I love phase and originally would observe phase for everything-but a lot of pond microbes can look just as good in bright field or darkfield-but when you flip to phase and massive numbers of soil bacteria suddenly show up like magic…it’s well..magic! Advice on vintage scopes

Hello peeps-I’m thinking of getting the Olympus scope below as a traveller-has sturdy box etc-my only problem with scopes of this vintage is the neck/back strain bending over to look down the eye piece-did they make add on angled monocular eye tubes in this vintage a bit like you’d see on any modern...
