Re: Right eyepiece droops

If you haven't found the answer to this yet, please give brand and model number of the scope. More help may be available through personal experience of others.

Re: Right eyepiece droops

I had this problem with a new scope once. It took a while for me to find that tiny screw on the occular tube which needed tightening. Take your time. Look carefully.

Re: What is this on my new microscope? I need help

True. Rotate the objective to see if it is the cause. Clean the top lens on the condenser. Check the entire light path for cleanliness, including the lens on the bottom of the head. Disassembly of microscope head is not recommended. Do spots disappear when you focus on a specimen? If they do, don't ...

Yes. But finding the right lens may be difficult I sometimes wonder if the people who make lenses for spectacles might be able to help in that regard but I have never asked .

Re: What is this?

That is a very beautiful Ernst Leitz Wetzlar microscope. That flat round object under the eyepiece with a knob on it should have a rotating disc inside that moves when you turn the knob to adjust the degree or angle of polarization . It's a winner and it's rare. Could be worth real money. Wetzlar wa...

Unable to buy scopes I went for better cameras, and I finally have seeds that have sprouted so the next experiment starts tomorrow after spending two years playing with pond water. By the way, I bought a bag of planting mix to work with plants. I put some in a petri dish and added water. Looking at ...

Re: Camera magnification on trinocular scope too high

The size of the image produced by your camera is much larger than what you see through the eyepiece because of the size of the camera sensor. Most microscope camera have a sensor of 1/2. That will give pretty close to a 40x image with a ten x objective. It makes it seem like your are using close to ...

Thanks! Now I understand. I have the ping pong balls and will make a couple of these things, but you make me think that a bigger thing made with similar materials might enhance imaging with the stereo scope as well .

Hi Pete and Scar. I am using a microscope slide. Glued to it with water proof glue is a small rectangle made with my 3d printer. On top of that I am placing a very thin piece of clear acrylic, also with water proof glue. The top of the rectangle has been cut off to allow for adding hydrponic water,a...

1. What are the specimens. If they are pond water type, leave the cover on the help prevent evaporation and don't worry about oxygen.. Mine are always in sealed jars. 2. These are best kept where they get some light, but the window sill might be too much to just be left there all the time. 3. Collec...

Re: Identify blown capacitor in halogen power supply

If over 40 years old, it is advisable to change all capacitors in the circuitry, whether ceramic or electrolytic. Capacitors just give up the ghost over time, even if they are not being energized.

Re: Identify blown capacitor in halogen power supply

Electrolytic capacitors are voltage specific, meaning plus to plus and minus to minus. The positive pole will be marked with a plus sign. Hook that up backwards and the explosion could be a real mess.

Re: Identify blown capacitor in halogen power supply

I would not advise attempting to replace an electrolytic capacitor with a ceramic capacitor. That is unwise. I would replace it with a more rebust electrolytic capacitor, such as a 0.1 micro Farad, 600 or 1000 volt capacitor. Before replacing it, you need to check all circuit components. Did anythin...

Re: Olympus nearing deal to sell microscope unit for more than US$2 billion: Sources

It reminds of the disaster Coca Cola brought upon itself when it changed its flavor. It's possible that the name for microscopes will not change but other things are bound to.
I think it is a huge mistake if for no other reason than the company itself introduces doubt.

Re: A question about photography and cameras

The sensor of the camera tells the tale. Most are listed in camera specs as 1/2. The apparent size of the image changes if the sensitivity of the camera changes. 1/3 will give a different image than 1/2. It's not really the price of the camera. It's the sensitivity . I have some cameras that were pr...

Re: A question about photography and cameras

Most microscope cameras deliver what appears to be the size of nearly a 400x image when you are expecting a 40x image. Without getting technical, your experience is normal.

Looks to me like an adaptor ring used to make a 20 mm objective fit a 25 mm nose piece. I'd like to find a source for such things at a reasonable price.
